Detroit Tigers Predicted to Reunite With Two Former Aces This Offseason
November 8, 2024
Max Scherzer and Justin Verlander. What do you guys think, too late?

I think I’ve wanted JV back since 2017, but now, it better be for a small deal. I don’t need us losing out on big stars bc of old pitchers. Would love to see him back.
No. That ship has sailed.
Would it be great feeling the heartstrings getting tugged having them back? Sure.
Do I see it happening? Realistically, no.
I just want JV to somehow get to 300 wins as impossible as it seems… probably more likely at Houston if we are being honest
How about Flaherty reunion instead?
No thanks
We need rotational help, if either or both of these guys are willing to play here for their real current value and potentially get moved to the pen, then I’m fine with it.
I follow JV closer, so I’ll use him as an example. He might be cooked, but his velocity was still fine and he was coming back from injury. He could have decent upside and be worth penning an incentive-laden low dollar amount contract.
Important to note, I’d look at either of them as back of the rotation and signing either would not mean the team should avoid seeking a higher end starter.
Why? I’m a sucker for nostalgia and I love what those two brought to the team, but the Tigers need to be looking forward, not back. Unless they sincerely fit a role better than anyone else on the market, I don’t want the team to spend money on players in the twilight of their careers. The Illitch family sure loves overpaying for older players. If the deal fits, fine, but it’s a tough sell for me.
This is a bunch of nonsense wrapped up in a distraction sandwich. Both? Probability is incredibly low. One of them yeah sure maybe it could happen.
This is nostalgia bait
Jfc can we get someone under the age of 70 please
JV, yes, let the guy finish his career with us as a back of the rotation starter (assuming he’s willing to take back of the rotation money to finish his career here). I’m confident our coaching staff can get one final productive season out of him, and he may be a good veteran presence in the clubhouse. Maybe we can also start grooming him to become a part of our pitching staff once he retires?
Scherzer I’ll pass on. He did not mean anywhere near as much to the city and fans as JV did. Definitely don’t want to gamble on both of them.
But I’d place much higher priority on bringing Flaherty back.
Hard fucking pass. Go retire with the teams you bailed on us for.
Anyone predicting that is either a moron or really doesn’t want the Tigers to be taken seriously.
Nah, I’d rather not.
Hard pass unless it’s a 1 game deal to retire as a Tiger. Those dudes are as old as me and gassed the fuck out.
No, thank you. They’re close to done or in Verlander’s case, done.
I haven’t seen these guys lately, but if they both are willing to do a John Smoltz and be the 8th and 9th inning guys, is be willing to give it some thought.
Pass unless they’re dirt cheap.
For a one day deal to retire a tiger? Sure. To play, no thanks.
Id say theres around a 1% chance this happens.
Come home JV!
Nope. Not worth
Please don’t.
Get guys that aren’t held together with bandaids and paper clips
SI is trash, and they don’t have a clue.
Scherzer isn’t welcome back. I’ll take Verlander back for a year i guess
There’s a real shot JV comes back – the Tigers can easily afford an incentive laden contract and the opportunity to slide in as a playoff team’s #2 if earned is an attractive one to a competitive guy like JV.
I recall JV saying at one point that he’d be open to a reunion if it made sense for him. Coming off an injury-plagued season but still wanting to play, and with the Cats on the rise finally, it seems to make sense now for him. Now will Harris feel the same way on a 42 year old pitcher coming off of that kind of season?
I would definitely buy tickets to see Justin Verlander pitch again.
I’d take JV in the pen for sure
lol no thanks. Can we get some actually good players in free agency.

I liked the thought of a JV reunion before this season…but there’s a reason he wasn’t on Houston’s playoff roster. Max makes no sense and I would guess Chris Ilitch has no interest in dealing with him anyway after how contract talks broke down with his dad.
I doubt this front office is interested in adding anyone in their 40s, especially with Maeda still taking up roster space. I’d like to see them add one or two of these guys: Walker Buehler, Shane Bieber, Sean Manaea, Luis Severino, Nick Pivetta
