I hope this Future Considerations guy makes an impact. Can’t find any player stats on him.
Thought we would’ve waited til spring to spring Sprong, now he’s been sprung out
Tocchet was never going to trust him enough to be an effective player. I liked his game, but I’m just a dude with a phone, coaches must have just felt he wasn’t buying into the system.
Bummer, I thought he and Bains played super well on a line together. I guess management must have thought Bains was a wash, and because Joshua and Lekkerimaki are joining the lineup any day now anyway, they didn’t want to send Sprong down to Abby for his cap
I understand we do not have a roster spot for him once everyone’s healthy. However, I wish we had given him more of a shot in the top-6. It seems like we gave Bains so much time on the top 6 than Sprong this season. With Boeser likely out a little bit, I was hoping this would give him one more chance to prove himself. We have enough forward depth, but I hope we had hang out to him a little longer to give him a better chance to find his game.
Is that Lekk’s entrance music!?
Kinda surprised by this. He didn’t look so bad the past few games but alas I am just a peasant here for the ride
Seeing Sprong carry his gear out of the dressing room while Garly was being interviewed by Murph after the game last night was unusual. I wonder if he knew then.
Clearly wasn’t a Tocchet guy, true liability on defense and inconsistent. Come on down Lek
Why even sign him? We watched Toch staple Kuzy to the bench and the dude was a near 40 goal scorer. Sprong has a career high of 21 and is as bad if not worse defensively than Kuzy it never made any sense to me.
Don’t love giving him to Seattle for nothing tho. I get he’s not really a needle mover but if we are gonna dump him for nothing surely a team in the east would’ve taken it rather than a team in our division.
There was a rush chance down the wing last night and sprong shot it high and wide that went back up the other way… I said in my head “Ruuhhh Roohhh” that’s exactly what Tocc said he doesn’t want to see. .. that aside.. I actually thought he was trying and liked his speed through the neutral zone.
Lekki Time
We coulda used him in shootouts lol
I wonder if Sprong actually requested a trade. Don’t see any issue with him getting 4th line minutes, but perhaps it affected his potential for a next contract. For all we know, chef Allvin did him a solid
This was such a strange move. The Canucks sign the worst defensive player in the league and then get upset at him for not being good defensively and trade him.
One goal in nine games, and a -2, not surprised.
Everyone saying lekki. But aman is a guy that tocc trusts
lots of commentaries about Lekk – his offense is obvious but how is his Defensive play? Has he been following Tocc style of play?
Nice to see a management group move on so quick when things don’t trend…
toccs last straw was for the drop pass at the blueline last game
Nooooo!
Raty staying with the team I hope. I didn’t hear any Abby news today. We can use him on the face offs if he keeps winning them.
~~Canucks social media didn’t even post a “THANK YOU SPRONG” picture~~ 😭
EDIT: They finally did! 😏
He better get a tribute video to his first Canuck goal (also the first goal of the season) when we play the Kraken at home 😤
That drop pass at his own blue line with the minutes left got him shipped out of town
what is future considerations
Wow that is quick. Yeah, better play the Tocchet game or else!
This makes some sense. Forbort being out and brannstrom actually playing pretty good, he’d be waiver eligible so keeping a roster spot open for the extra forward to cover for boeser and when dak comes back.
Thank you Daniel sprong. Canucks legend
Mo’ cap Mo’ deals, LFG!
Look forward to seeing Future Considerations play! Heard he’s a really good player!
Lots of people talking about how Sprong failed defensively and so didn’t work with Tocchet. I dont think thats what happened at all here, he wasn’t great defensively but I don’t think he performed below expectations.
I think Sprong has unfortunately been a victim of circumstance due to how the early part of the season has played out. With DeBrusk being moved off Peteys wing and Hoglander not establishing himself as a bonafide top 6 option when the opportunity presented itself that forced Tocc to play Garland with Petey and those 2 moves in the top 6 created the Heinen-Blueger-Sherwood line. With Joshua getting healthy and into game shape he is eventually going to slide into the Garland-Petey line. Which leaves Hoglander, Suter, Sprong, Raty and Bains fighting over being the 4th line.
The other factor is that Brannstrom is back to needing waivers so he’s no longer an option to paper down for cap space on off days unless we put him on waivers and given he’s been solid on the 3rd pairing for us, why would we do that? So moving Sprong allows us to keep both Raty and Bains on the roster to paper down without either needing waivers to keep accuring cap space.
What the fuck?
He’s gonna have 2 goals and 2 assists when we play Seattle isn’t he?
Let him cook let him cook
I’m disappointed, I actually liked him & his play, but Seattle fans seem to be happy to have him back. Hopefully he has a good season there
Spronger was told he was on a short leash, buy-in or GTFO.
Who else would be coming out of the lineup once DJ is good to go?
I think this Allvin throwing a bone to Seattle in hopes to acquire Oleksiak in the future.
There’s reports that he may have asked for the trade since he wasn’t getting the top 6 role he was promised, but it’s hard to see him replacing anyone in Seattle’s top 6 either
