  1. Soto doesn’t seem like the type of person to sign with the Dodgers when he just lost to them in the World Series.

    That’s my cope.

  2. The Nationals offered him a contract with multiple deferrals and he was not interested in signing it. Doubt he is interested in signing a contact with deferrals now. He wants his money and he wants it now. The Dodgers would have to take a different course of action with him and I doubt they will reach Mets money.

  3. Posted this in r/baseball but I don’t see Soto pulling a Durant, but if he does MLB absolutely needs to address rules regarding deferred money and salary caps.

  4. If this happens, I’m not watching baseball for a while. But I honestly don’t think he will. This strikes me as a way to pump up his value.

  5. People acting like there’s no chance they sign him are delusional. They have a ton of money available and they go after every big free agent

  6. Smart on the dodgers to try and drive a bidding war. Make big market teams spend more of their money. Nuters their spending to go after more weapons.

  7. Some relevant points:

    1. There’s a lot more Dominicans in NYC than LA. Soto is a national hero in NYC. This is just the truth.
    2. LA has very knowledgeable and loyal fans but they’re not NY fans. The fanbase has connected with Soto this year, he’s already beloved in NY.
    3. There are direct flights from NYC airports to the DR, none from LA. Unless the Dodgers charter a jet for him anytime he wants to fly home for the next 12 years this works in the Yankees’ favor.
    4. Only one MLB team has Aaron Judge and that’s the Yankees. Soto just had the best year of his career hitting in front of Judge, an MVP type year. No other team can offer him that level of lineup protection, certainly not for the next 5 – 6 years. Ohtani’s a great hitter but if he’s pitching it’s not the same.
    5. The Dodgers may have no intention of signing Soto, they might just be trying to drive his value up to cost the Yankees a bundle. This is unlikely but would be some great strategy on their part if true.
    6. If Soto will take $55M/12 years then he signs with the Yankees. If the Mets offer $60M/15 years then he signs with them and they deserve him for that kind of money.

  8. Sign Soto to an insane contract and then slap a few more ads onto our jerseys to make up for it. They’re already there, and if it means having top players I can deal with a few more.

    Done deal.

  9. I don’t think the dodgers are really interested I think they want to drive the price up. They were saying on the Michael Kay show that Soto has a preference to live in NY but is also looking for the highest pay day.

  10. I don’t think Soto is that soft, I think he believes in legacy. I don’t think he’s Kevin Durant. I think he gets what it means to win as a Yankee.

  11. Baseball will be so much this season when the Dodgers land Soto and Sasaki. Not to mention who ever else they end up picking up.

  12. I give him coming back a 30% chance. I have not felt in my gut it will happen. Hal is too cost conscious.
