[Slater] The Cavaliers make a lot of sense for Cam Johnson or Dorian Finney-Smith. They’ve gotten a first-hand look at the impact both veterans can have tonight.

The Cavs don’t have CJ money, they have DFS money at best.
As a Cavs fan, I really like Cam Johnson but because he’s looked good so far this year, I don’t see a realistic trade package from the Cavs that won’t get outbid. Unless the nets really like a Okoro, filler, and draft capital package.
Ngl the Cavs have nothing that the Nets would be interested in for Cam or DFS
2 1st rounders will do
Fit is one thing.
Compensation coming back Brooklyn’s way is another thing.
The Cavs don’t have the draft capital to swing a trade for either player, unless they want to make their 2030 and / or 2031 1st round picks available. If I’m the CLE GM, I do NOT do that.
I think the baseline deal for DFS is a guy expiring in 2025-2026, and a 1st round pick.
**Dallas Mavericks receive:**
Dorian Finney-Smith ($14.9m)
**Brooklyn Nets receive:**
Mavericks 2025 1st round pick
Maxi Kleber ($11m)
Dante Exum (salary matching) ($3.3m)
If anyone out there can beat this deal, then go ahead. This is probably the best deal out there as it stands. Keep in mind… that tickling you heard was DFS’s trade value moving upward after he locked up Tatum on that last possession in regulation on November 8th. Contenders. Will. Come. Calling.
Cam Johnson is a different animal. I’m not sure his market has taken shape yet.
Cavs don’t have a lot of draft capital. They still owe Jazz for D Mitch.
Little bro wanted Cam Johnson but ain’t have Cam Johnson money😭
