The rolling average (for points) fell off about 15-20 games ago, that’s stats from the last 55-60 games.

  1. Kinda hard to tell at this point. Bruce was such a freewheeling coach it gave players a ton of offensive freedom.

Petey is a lot more complete player now from the defensive side of things, but add in the tendinitis injury troubles, slump, contract expectations it’s hard to say how much of that is Tocchet’s system or just his own struggles. I’m inclined to say it’s more on him given Boeser and Miller’s offensive success under Tocc

  2. For interpretation purposes, it would probably help to show some dates on the x axis and to have the y axis start at 0

I’d be curious to see where the all star break sits here

  3. Being weak on his feet has always been a problem. But, I think he spends a lot of time on his butt because he’s following the coaching. It wasn’t super noticeable before because he played very perimeter heavy. If you look at the games this season, he’s playing net front for some reason, even though his shot is wicked. He’s engaged in board battles rather than meticulously being f2 or f3 and picking the puck out of the scrum.

He’s just not playing HIS game right now. That’s the short answer. Or he’s just injured and I’m stupid.

  4. He must be dealing with a now chronic injury imo. Stats aside he just looks like a completely different player. Systems may play a role but not to this degree. Go watch a few highlights from his rookie and sophomore season. Where is that Petey? Certainty not playing for the Canucks right now.

  5. He was on pace for 107 points last season before his injury. It’s not the system. Pettersson is still recovering from his injury.

  6. It is obviously the injury. I don’t know why people so obstinately refuse to believe our superstar who was on a Hall of Fame pace prior when he’s telling us that he was injured. It’s been clear in his play.

He hasn’t forgotten how to move his feet. He’s floating more and skating slower because he’s being physically inhibited. His shot speed and accuracy haven’t fallen off because he has the yips. His mechanics are clearly different. He’s been barely shifting his weight onto his right (ie. lead) leg. Why? Because he’s trying to avoid aggravating it.

There’s no point in overanalyzing him. He’ll be better once he’s feeling better, and everyone that’s been at his throat will be revealed as histrionic spastics, because healthy Petey is a top 10, maybe top 5 C in the league.

It seemed like he was turning the corner last night. Let’s hope.

  7. Have you not seen the 10,000 (approx.) posts about the tendonitis in his knee? The injury that occurred around the time of the all-star game? The one he talked about in his interviews after the season ended? That he had to train around all summer?

Pretty sure that’s had an impact.

  8. hes been more on defense this season its probably due to his knee injury if you watch him closely dude falls and hasn’t slated in fast bursts. We hope he gets his offensive game back and he did the best last night against the oilers so were seeing some of it shine.

  9. Kuzmenko getting traded, encountering issues with tendonitis, etc. His fall from grace started around the all star break LY.

  10. Last game, they mentioned that he has been working on his deflections, and also this season, he has been in the front of the net a lot… I just don’t get it. Why are you putting the guy with a great shot in front of the net tipping pucks.

  11. I hope this org isn’t willing to can Tocchet and trade away half our team just in hopes Petey will be worth his cap hit.

  12. Lot of yall gonna be lookin real silly signing that Petey apology form for the 2nd time

  13. **Elias Pettersson at the end of last season:**

    # “I’ve been playing on a bad knee since January”

“It’s been like a nagging injury, so the longer it went, the more pain I felt.”

**Elias Pettersson at Training Camp this Season:**

“I had a good summer. It was a little different — I had to train around my knee injury…”

“”It’s like a nagging injury, it doesn’t want to go away easily…”

**Ray Ferraro on playing with Tendinitis:**

“It’s frustrating because you can take three weeks off and come back and be right in the same spot. You do treatment and you have pretty detailed treatment to the area of inflammation and sometimes it just takes forever to get better. It just does.”

I don’t blame the fanbase for not knowing this… I fee like it’s underreported by certain media members…

I specifically blame certain Sportsnet 650 Shows for borderline Gas-lighting the fanbase on Petey’s struggles. They know the reason why, and yet they’re like “what could it be” LOL

Guys (Drance/Dodd & Sat & Riccio) you’ve been told by the player himself, and one of the NHL’s top analysts what’s wrong and how it affects your their game, What else do you need? A doctor’s report?

    Like come on.

  14. The conservation aside, I love this visual. It’s brilliant and shows so much about a player’s trajectory. You should do this for other players as well, not just Canucks but other teams too.

  15. Note that start point…. Was not at the beginning of his career. You are using a misleading chart

  16. Don’t think there’s anything to worry about. He quelled most of my worries with his upwards trajectory the last few games.

Healing from knee injuries is tricky, especially tendinitis. You basically have to rest it and then you strengthen the muscles around it to avoid the injury in the future.

You heal it first by resting. The guy probably had minimal time to do cardio with the shortened offseason + rehab. He’d been playing like his mind wanted to do one thing but his body wouldn’t let him. Takes about 10-15 games to work yourself into game shape. We’re seeing that take place right now. It’s not a coincidence he’s suddenly becoming one of our fastest skaters these last 3 games.

  17. Nothing to do with Tocchet. It’s just easier to score on a weak team vs a good team. The opponent plays the good team a lot tougher. Petey can’t handle the extra physical attention. He’s built like a 16 year old. That’s simply not conducive for success in the NHL.

  18. Give him the one timer on the right side on the power play. He won’t have to move as much, he has a bomb and he is literally NEEDING to produce something. When we started tweaking the PP unit where we had Petey on the right, Huggy at the point, Miller on the left, Boeser in front and someone on the side, we had success and Petey could blast that one time on the right side, Millsy could rip the twister on the left half wall, Huggy could make the shift either way and Boeser got 4 goals. Put the power play unit back!
