  1. Makes sense. Dude was shortening bones to try and fix his wrist.

Wish him the best, gonna be an all-time what if for me. Was a huge fan of his.

  2. Understandable. The injuries pile up, probably was going to be non tendered.

Hopefully he can have a nice career outside of playing

  3. I really thought he was gonna be special man. Prettiest swing I’ve ever seen. That dumb wrist though. One of the biggest what-ifs.

  4. Sucks.

I’m going to assume the man never really healed from the wrist injury and has been playing in pain for a number of years and he was just done with doing that.

  5. Damn, that sucks. He really didn’t have any other options tho. His bone shaving operation in 2022/2023 was his last chance because everything else didn’t work to solve his batting issue. Then to be hit with a back injury that needed surgery this year.

  6. I guess that’s one way to free up 1.8 million in payroll but man, pretty sad. Was really hoping things would eventually click in a sustainable way for the guy.

  7. His back injury must be super messed up then. Talking year to years plural recovery. And by then who’s even to say it won’t linger.

    Absolutely brutal

  8. Crap. I really hoped the injuries were something that he could work through and even if he didn’t live up to all that potential at least put together _some_ kind of MLB career.

  9. I’m guessing his wrist decided for him. What a shame. I’m sure he’s gonna make a great coach someday down the line.

    > After nine seasons in professional baseball, I’m announcing my decision to step away from the game today. Baseball has always been a cornerstone of my life. Starting with my childhood in western Pennsylvania, where I grew up as the son of a baseball coach. Spending countless hours in the batting cages, hitting hundreds of balls daily, fueled my dream of playing Major League Baseball. Living that dream has been an absolute joy – and this journey has been filled with unforgettable moments, challenges that led to growth, and lasting experiences that have enriched my life beyond measure.

    > In my nine professional seasons, I’ve encountered numerous injuries, which led me to search for new ways to overcome the pain. These challenges have taken a toll on me mentally and physically; over time, I’ve realized that my passion for playing the game has shifted. Baseball demands an ‘all-in’ approach, something I’ve brought to every season. However, I can no longer give it the total commitment it requires. I’ve always believed that playing this game requires 110% effort, and anything less would not do justice to my teammates, coaches, fans, or the game itself.

    > I am deeply grateful for the support I’ve received from my wife, family, friends, teammates, coaches, staff, and fans throughout my career. There are so many people to thank, and I will personally thank them. Your belief in me made all the difference, and I will be forever grateful. I’d like to thank the Minnesota Twins for giving me an opportunity. The things I was able to experience, I’ll be able to take with me the rest of my life.

    > As I navigate the recovery process for my current lower back injury, I’m excited to focus more on my family and explore new opportunities. While this next chapter won’t take place on the field, my story is far from over.

  11. Retiring before the bad habits of making baseball work take more important things from you. All the love to Alex. The team will miss him, but I couldn’t respect the decision more

  12. I can’t imagine the heartbreak. You have to work so hard for so long to get to that level. I respect him for listening to his body and valuing his longer-term health.

  13. 26 going on 50 the way his body has failed him. Tough to see for sure. I’m not sure the twins were going to tender him though. I think he was supposed to make 1.9m.
