This is the first of Washington’s three losses where they probably should have won. However, for the first time in his young career, Daniels couldn’t produce the necessary magic. If the Commanders had limited their mistakes, he probably would have pulled it out.

We had multiple big plays that resulted in drops. I’m not at all convinced that with 60 seconds on the clock that the game would have been over. But, he never got the opportunity.
Losing is good from time to time. It exposes weaknesses that are important to understand and correct and it keeps the team hungry and angry. It’s also healthy for Jayden to have an average game so the team doesn’t get overly complacent. Anybody, anywhere, any f-ing time. Sometimes you’re going to lose and you get back up and fight again.
Yeah. I’m convinced that had the Ertz 4th down catch been spotted properly and ruled down on the field, the review would have stood and we would have gone on to win the game.
But the mistakes were apparent and very sloppy all game, they’ll need to tighten up during practice this week, we cannot afford those mistakes against Philly.
It’s hard for Jayden to produce “magic” when Highsmith or Heyward are in the backfield off the snap and our receivers not named Scary Terry can’t make a catch when we need it. This game really highlighted our need for a true #2 receiver, which I hope is addressed in the offseason.
Yesterday I thought the Ertz spot was proper. But lookin’ back at the replays it now appears that he had the first down.
He had possession with the first down in that screenshot and then was touched down at the 42. With forward progress he _definitely_ had the first down. Refs stole one from us.
I’m not sure “should” is 100% accurate, given the Steelers made quite a few significant mistakes. I doubt either team thinks it played great.
It was a close game. No need to overthink it. Just make sure you learn from it and get better.
they are well ahead of schedule. as long as they fight hard and show they belong with the best teams I’m fine
That’s why I wasn’t that mad when they lost yesterday
The last three games have been very similar. Commanders build a lead. In the second half the defense wears out, the offense starts to sputter, and the other team slowly and methodically claws back into the game. Losing to the Steelers by itself is not that concerning. The fact that the loss is the product of an emerging pattern is.
Did no one see the Pittsburgh rush? They wipe out the QB esp in the 4th quarter. Kirk cousins couldn’t even beat them. You need more than a QB
Don’t know if I’d say they should have won. Steelers had a fumble on the 1 yard line that was pretty fortunate for Washington. Steelers pass rush was really the difference imo. Definitely the most pressure Daniels has seen and they did a great job of keeping him contained in the pocket
man I feel like I’m taking crazy pills around here with all of this negativity.
First and foremost, this was NEVER supposed to be our year. Prior to the start of the year, it was a consensus objective take of this team that it was absolutely devoid of talent. There are a mere handful of Ron holdovers left on this roster because he was an abomination of a talent evaluator. Peters then inherited a roster in need of a total re-haul, including a QB. So after spending the #2 overall pick on a QB, Peters had to plug all of the holes on the roster with mid round picks and 1-2 year deals on journeymen. Going into the season, we were (and to many degrees still are) being held together by bubble gum and duct tape.
But over the course of 10 weeks, we’ve learned that: 1) we have a franchise QB; 2) we have a revolutionary culture and identity; 3) we have adults in charge from ownership to the GM to the coaching staff. And believe it or not, you really only need those three things to be in an elite tier of the NFL.
Yeah I get pissed off watching OZ muff punts, and Noah/Dyami Brown dropping passes, and St Juste getting burnt. But then I look up and see a one point loss to the AFC’s second best team. I see a 7-3 squad who have literally fought like dogs in every single game, who are overcoming adversity through some key injuries and poor officiating, who are just competing at every turn.
Philly gets to walk around chest out with their temporary lead in the division. But compare the talent on their roster to ours. They are underachievers. Then look at what’s happening in Chicago and tell me you’d rather have that rookie QB experience as to what we have. Look at Atlanta losing to what should’ve been a cupcake win yesterday. Giants in a death spiral, Cowboys becoming a laughing stock, Ravens lost to the Browns two weeks ago, Broncos couldn’t seal it against the Chiefs, Texans can’t put Lions away at their own home. I genuinely don’t know what we’re complaining about. Any given Sunday, these losses happen literally all the time – ours being by a matter of literal inches. Are we seriously getting miffed over being 7-3 in what’s really Year 0 of a rebuild?
We were the second worst team in all of football last year. Everything we’ve achieved thus far this year has far exceeded expectations. If none of this season sparks optimism in you, idk what to say. And if you really need the hit of optimism, imagine what Jayden’s skill positions will look like in the next 2-3 seasons after Peters has more time to refine the roster. I’m sorry, but I think we stand on the most wanted long term territory in the entire league.
he lead us on a 90 something yard drive to take the lead against a 6-2 team, should have had a converted 4th down and just didn’t get the ball back. Not much more he could have done
I think there was only one bad throw from Daniels, hard to make magic when everyone’s dropping balls.
nah. A veteran QB, a hall of fame worthy coach and a solid pair of WR’s exposed our thin secondary. Lattimore isn’t going to get healthy fast enough.
It hurts to come up one yard short of a victory, but you can call it karmic balance for the Hail Mary win. In the end, this game won’t keep us out of the playoffs, and it showed the team how they have to play when JD’s run is shut down.
For the second time this season, we forced a turnover inside the 5 yard line late in the game, only to immediately give the ball back to the other team, who then went right back down the field to score with less time left on the clock for us.
In both instances we would have been better off if they had scored the first time lol.
They definitely didn’t bring their A game and it was still down to the wire. That’s very encouraging to me.
My gut feeling is that the ribs are hampering him. That coupled with the Steelers front getting consistent pressure rattled him a bit and missed throws. It happens and has happened to even HOF QBs. But he also was not helped out at all by his supporting cast except Terry. This was one of those games we needed his teammates to pick him up a bit.
Good news is we can certainly compete with any team in the NFL and our roster is pretty trash. No DB help and WRs outside of Terry are no bueno.
Ok guys based on this article we should tank from here on.
I’m happy with the fact that we competed with a 6-2 team with a great defense. Yes, our team made more mistakes to address. Jayden is also still nursing that torso injury too so who knows much that’s also affecting his mobility and accuracy. Our team is not a team that can overcome mistakes consistently to win because we still have several spots and depth that need upgrades.
To me the story of the game was the edge rushers vs tackles. Not having our starters there was tough. They kept Jayden uncomfortable in the pocket and unable to extend plays because they sealed the edges well. Also didn’t help that several receivers dropped passes throughout the game. And because we couldn’t pound down the middle with BRob, couldn’t get anything going
interesting that this has only happens when playing against teams with winning records 0-3 (the p didd hail mary doesn’t count)
When I was still bowling in leagues, I’d often tell my teammates that we win and lose as a team. No single mistake by any particular player deserves to be singled out as “the” reason for a loss. Even multiple mistakes by a single unit shouldn’t be singled out. Yes, receivers dropped multiple passes. Daniels also missed sailed some throws. The O-line also blew their protections on a few snaps. The secondary (not just BSJ) also got burned multiple times for big plays. The pass rush also missed chances to bring down Wilson for lacks or otherwise impede his ability to throw. New jumped offsides to effectively end the game. Refs missed flags on both teams and gave us a bad spot on the Ertz catch.
And that’s just the execution part of the game. No doubt our coaches made some poor decisions too.
All of this is to say, we made all of those mistakes and still only lost by 1 point. Against one of the league’s best teams and probably the league’s best all-around defense.
Washington will be fine. They will use this game as a learning opportunity and grow from it. Onto the next one.
He maybe could have if he got the ball in his hands with 1 minute left.
Learning experience for him. As all are doing here is easy to stay blaming this or that. But Daniel’s needs to/ can learn from this. Make him a more complete qb.
Steelers are a great defensive team who had 2 weeks to prep for us, and it was still a nail biter
I saw more than enough yesterday to know we belong in the conversation as playoff contenders. We are not frauds and we are 1-2 offseasons from owning the East for a decade
He missed throws but he never looked “bad” which in my opinion is a great sign. If he was having an all time looking lost game I could understand the fear but this was just one of those “not our days”
He lowkey was like that vs the bears too, but the Hail Mary was the only thing people talk about, not the miscues we had the first 3 quarters despite being better
