Last question of this interview reveals that even though Spurs tied a franchise record of three point attempts last game, they want to shoot even more.

  1. Well yeah, we’re 12th in attempts and 22nd in percentage. The top 7 teams all shoot over 40 per game while we shoot 37. It doesn’t hurt since we’re so early into a rebuild and shooting is needed overall.

  2. Well we are shooting pretty much mostly wide open 3s so cant be mad. I don’t know if its cause teams don’t respect us or ball movement or both.

  3. Makes sense to win in the NBA these days

Unfortunately, it makes the game so much less exciting for me, even when we win

I just wish the NBA would push back the 3 point line by like 6 feet and eliminate corner 3s

  4. I think our philosophy if everything pans out is basically the ultimate 3 and D team. If we’re not shooting 3’s we’re just abusing Wemby’s double team for easy cuts. This is basically the current moneyball iteration of basketball and it’s convenient to have the ultimate defensive player as a centerpiece.

The dream with this roster is something between The Beautiful Game and the warriors dynasty.

  5. Most of these guys are going to shoot 8 or 9 of 10 in the gym.. They are shooting 2 or 3 of 10 in game. Because games are different than practice or even scrimmage.

The only way to improve game shooting is to shoot in the game.

Young players are gonna have to shoot lots in game.

It’ll be painful but that’s how you build great shooters.

  6. As much as I hate the modern game where iso ball is king and pull up threes are just taking the fun out of the game for me, that’s just the way the game has evolved. I’m sure Pop hates as much as I do but he’s gotta maximize on the 3s to give his team the best chance to win.
