NHL ’94 “Game of the Night” Red Wings @ Blackhawks – “November 6, 2024”

Last night, the Detroit Red Wings (6-5-1) knocked off the Chicago Blackhawks (5-8-1) by a 4-1 final score at the United Center in Chicago. Former Blackhawk Alex DeBrincat grabbed the opening goal with just a second and a half remaining in the first period to propel the Red Wings into a lead they wouldn’t relinquish in what was ultimately a business-like victory.
Though Nick Foligno equalized just under nine minutes into the second, Dylan Larkin added a second goal to restore Detroit’s lead within four minutes of Foligno’s goal. Joe Veleno then added an insurance marker early in the third, before Andrew Copp sealed the result with an empty-netter. In net, Cam Talbot made 28 saves on 29 shots to backstop the victory.
One key factor on the Red Wings’ side Wednesday night? Control of high-danger chances. Even in a first period in which the Blackhawks out-attempted their guests 19-13, Detroit had a 4-2 advantage in high-danger chances, per Natural Stat Trick. From there, the Red Wings earned a 7-3 edge in high-danger chances over the final 40 minutes, including a 4-0 advantage in the third.

In the featured video above, I discussed the Red Wings’ steady performance in the winning effort.
