Alex Sarr is shooting very poorly from three. Alex Sarr is also taking a lot of threes.

On the surface, this doesn't make sense. I tried to figure out why.

  1. I’m a little concerned about him. He’s physically very gifted and a talented athlete but he comes across to me as someone with poor basketball instincts. Hope he proves me wrong

  2. Can I see an Alley oop or some easy buckets set up for him, just saying, I hope brogdan can open up some easy looks for the young fellas.

  3. The problem he has is that he’s both a bad shooter and he has the green light.

And it reminds me when Jabari Smith Jr had those really rough stretches I think is rookie year and he was shooting like 20% on high volume

  4. Damn Varun you’re up late man. I hope you’re getting OT f[](https://alb.reddit.com/cr?za=wIjg_OyuFz6Gl1uCdEEEM_RYbfWdAAv_4GpksYitBx2Yg92uWFDMN3hVhpD0Cyujffn1W5DQnhq-F8kZX2T5RZYS5A4WcNbYZi1h0nC1OiHB4-lzB873V9XRosGGhrcy17egIyVgq4IHsIuk1ARAym5HyHQBVrJLapDaEoruXlXKIFSm6KqKphli48M5RcXAb1ChzLP-OS92GS70D1OAauAzNSYEUyfFzbdHMJ1aN9AxX7epFOY9by-iO34u_QVXOKTeN3Vl4E5To4-LtR06zogVjkuUYc0QZ2VViDTIvOzi68fm5LUUMeAZT5sXq5DknVSRDGPOnr-BkDu0R86yIQgClg8rDyKu0_-L3Y4oayY-XACyAf5kojrVfY37jdERYjDp0_sN_AXpAmwDgxmcAoxN5mFnpeALv1udgQzUcpg_qyhkTGE&zp=ZO4hggvHkfu8G2jQ4zYUE3MssouoeUXXaPYaNWQPKzL9X4IB0IOu0ZlAukZ2j_enIGGf9GWMGI3y5eMcWcHRjr-iAruprTm9ZUjMPx9nIRgM48ZmBD2ZG5-BASaRINWvl825YqouQtVLfm6X8vgCfw5waIVKAeZWflznW_SXoqRCm1rk21S0bVLI9kH9H8bwmi3v8EwqEQ1noElx0L-yGUOWKwOjxicIsITzdO1XexSPg6fPcINSmE1–G81o2DmQJPr9BS8Lyww_51AZdPajUoLxtxaFMHCTkUR7HZ4O-WghqWkae-6SwB8TRQf0DM6pTf006dLbCsKs3-ZrSgRTYUDCTyl)or this!

I like the optimism from Keefe and from Sarr about his shots.

The thing I’m most concerned about with Sarr is his FT%. FT% tends to be a good indicator of potential shooting improvement. Sarr is now shooting 71% from the FT line on about 3 attempts a game, which isn’t a great sign of him raising that % to a respectable level to be a true floor spacing big.

If he doesn’t space the floor it would be better for the coaching staff to lean into his other gifts like defense, passing, grabbing rebounds and running in transition with his decent handle in the open court.

But it’s still early days, I don’t mind holding out hope that he can turn it around like Keefe said.

  5. Sarr is so up in the air to me, and it’s because he’s so raw at so many things.

He is underdeveloped in pretty much every facet offensively, shooting is bad, rim running is bad, picks are weak, playmaking looks solid which I’m happy to see but doesn’t mean much when he’s getting zero penetration/isn’t one of our play initiators.

His interior defense is pitiful in one-on-one situations against bigs, sure he’s been able to get blocks but he hasn’t demonstrated the ability to lock up his matchup yet.

His rebounding numbers are bad offensive and defensive, given his size.

We talk about his athleticism at his size a lot, but I have yet to see true quick burst sequences from him, IE getting around a defender using a quick step. This is most apparent in his face up driving, where his euro step moves almost always end with him just running straight into his defender and trying to float a shot over him. I’ve watched every game and I don’t think I’ve seen him get a blow by on a matchup yet, which I was expecting to see him do to the bigs he was driving against with the talk of his athletic ability.

I think he has potential to grow in these areas over the course of this season, and I think theres a very good chance he does to some degree, but my question would be, if we don’t see him round out one of these areas in particular by the end of the season, what do you think is the most important thing for Sarr to build on this offseason? What is the best tool he could add to his belt to help this team next year?
