We know Stroud is a world beater, but recently his confident has been shot. I have full faith in him regardless, but having a monopoly on 3rd and longs is not a winning formula nor is it how you make your QB regain their confidence. I

  1. The crazy thing is I think they finally were turning the corner and the first play after halftime was a pass…. That was picked off. I think that killed it.

  2. This basically summarizes why I’m so annoyed with Slowik. It is like he’s designed an offence to make it as hard as possible for Stroud to succeed.

From a comment I made elsewhere:

“Doesn’t help that the majority of the season (could still be up until now but I’m not sure I just recall the stat going into like.. week 5) is that the Texans EPA was negative on first and second down. Do I think Stroud is playing well? No, the pick in the endzone exemplifies that. But part of the reason I’m so over Slowik is that it feels like everything is purpose built to fuck over a QB.

Your interior line was completely awful, you don’t have consistent run support as Mixon is also trying to succeed with god awful run blocking, and your playcalling is so ass you’re faced with a ton of 3rd and 8th as I wouldn’t be surprised if we have the worst rushing success rate in the league so unless Mixon uses elusiveness to break a run or dodge a tackle then it doesn’t do anything but put us in third and long.

All of this combined with having Dell as WR1 as Collins is out, TEs playing less well, and teams just getting more tape on the guy means that he’s playing worse.

He’s not playing well, but everything a QB needs to play well is just not there. Stroud was masking a lot of deficiencies in how the team is organized and how Slowik calls games and this year the stress is breaking him and consequently the offence.”

  3. Penalties gotta be driving this number up too. It was better last night but early on we had so many 1st and 20s that turned into 3rd and long.

  4. It is a terrible combination of bad offensive line play (both getting beaten and acquiring penalties), bad offensive plays and CJ holding the ball too long because he is trying to see if someone else can scramble free and get loose.

Slowik did seem like he was trying to do better, we are seeing more quick passes and they are trying to build up a solid play action routine. Yet opposing teams are figuring how our offensive stuff works by the second half leading to these unfortunate collapses when we should be able to win.

  5. Penalties

This is a side note but Stroud also needs to stop getting sacked and taking them out of FG range.

Seems to be a trend with young QBs to try and escape sacks and taken an even bigger loss.

  6. Well, when your semi-retarded OC calls the same run play on every 1st down, the D already knows what’s up.

I mean, even Chris Collinsworth called it out last night. Where are the quick slant routes? Why do all of our pass plays seem to take 5-6 seconds to develop? When your receivers are incapable of getting any sort of separation, you cannot do that. Also, if I see Dare in the game on 3rd down one more time I am going to kill somebody. Everyone knows that means pass!

    It’s infuriating.

  7. 3rd & Stroud is a fun meme until we realize that he’s just a 23 year old needing to singlehandedly cover up for a piece of shit offense.

  8. Perhaps the strategy of running the ball on 2nd down immediately after you got 0-2 yards on the first down run is not optimal.

Even more so when you do this every single time you have even a small lead.

  9. Dude is basically getting to throw once or twice a drive because right after we punt. You wither make the throw or we fail. That would destroy anyone’s confidence.

  10. Okay so what this tells me is that we’re gonna waste stroud’s career and then trade him within 5 years?

    Then the cycle will repeat.

  11. CJ could be the problem. Not cause of talent, hard work, etc. He could be the problem because he might not be mature enough, only his 2nd year. From what I see CJ doesn’t seem to call his own protection, doesn’t audible at the line and doesnt kill plays. Either he isn’t there yet and Slowik doesn’t want him to fail or he is there and Slowik doesn’t want to give up control. CJ saying “trust the game plan” to me is him not owning the game plan. CJ used to be the king of short throws. Now that’s become very rare. Def partly the line, but to me it’s also the pre-snap read by CJ. What does everything think should CJ get more involved in the offense or less involved (maybe he has too much running through his head). Texans want him to be Prudy, but I want him to be CJ.

  12. I think I could’ve actually called a better 4 minute offense than Slowik did yesterday
