  1. Two sharks legends.

Still don’t like JR though. I suppose he deserves his induction but an asshole through and through

  2. Well 80’s-90’s hockey was rough. Roenick and Tkachuk were probably best North American offensive players beside Leetch and Hatchers on D side of puck. He deserves the hall just he shouldn’t have pissed off media members during his playing days. Congrats 27/97 on HHOF!

  3. As a Leafs fan, I didn’t like Roenick. He also gave me a really dirty look for no reason once.

However, I’ve now heard him tell this story twice in the past week and have grown to have some respect him. I also plan to read his book.

I respect him being open about these things. Fuck the stigma.

  4. Didn’t like him .. remember him saying Marleau was gutless .. really didn’t like him after that .. but I have always respected him as a player ..

  5. Alcohol addiction is the Devil, if you have ever lost someone you love to it, or been there done that. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. It will burn you down with a smile.
Coyotes legend. Wish him the best and congrats to a HOF career. Hopefully many more teammates will make it in as well in that era.
Thanks for the memories. WhiteOut in Az was unreal in its day.

  6. What? How was he not already in? I assumed this must have been some kind of other honor. I can’t believe he wasn’t in the HOF already.

  7. JR was a force when he came into the league. He was a Leaf killer for a long time. But I could never hated JR. He’s too good a player. Too fun a personality and completely deserves to be in the hall. Congratulations JR. I’m happy you’re still with us!

  8. I do not know the most about him or his career or the standards for NHL induction…was he deserving? Anyone wanna give the quick spiel of why or why not he should be in? Just looking for a hockey fan perspective and not a sports writer. Thanks in advance.

  9. We went to an autograph signing he was doing in a mall in AZ about 20 years ago because my wife was a huge fan being from Chicago. She was wearing her Blackhawks jersey and asked for a hug instead of an autograph. He flashed a big smile, came out from behind the table gave her a hug and talked to her for a bit. He couldn’t have been nicer.

  10. Is it just me, or does the NHL have more guys with substance abuse issues than other leagues?

    Glad JR was helped.

  11. I ran into him a handful of times at Sky Harbor airport in Phoenix, I was traveling from Chicago on business. I just nodded and said ‘good afternoon (or morning) Mr Roenick’ as we passed, he politely nodded back. After a couple of times he recognized me.

He’s a big personality who wears his heart on his sleeve, I hope he can get back into broadcasting. Glad to see him in the Hall.
