Indianapolis Colts – Joe Flacco will start vs. Jets! Shane Steichen unhappy with players comments!

Shane Steichen does not say it explicitly to the media, but in a morning meeting he expressed his displeasure with public comments by Colts players to the media.
Anthony Richardson may never get out of the doghouse if Flacco’s performance against the Bills didn’t get him back in the lineup.

  1. Greetings Kent, hope you're doing well. Thanks for your post game shows. While I watched all of them, and always with a thumbs up for you, I've not been able to comment due to several engagements.

I am compelled to comment here, and as well have the time to do so. Which I also appreciate.

While it's true that it's refreshing to actually get some real feelings about things from the players such as Kenny Moore II's recent disclosures, I am one who firmly believes such laundry should not ever be disclosed outside of the organization, any organization.

None of us truly knows what kinds of efforts are being made behind the closed doors, and typically there are those that may disagree with the direction and/or headings of the organization.

As fans, observers, and reporters we of course are left to view, and question, and speculate.

Truthfully all we are left with is witnessing the product on the field each week. Certainly that product is a grossly inferior one creating obvious rancor, and emotions. As it should.

We're all not happy with what has gone on now for so many years. It's not this year or season as you indicated here in your commentary. It's many, and now unavoidably seems systemic.

No matter what we have thought and considered regarding this team, it is built for mediocrity, and has reached that level successfully now for a very long and sustained period of time.

Anthony Richardson, Joe Flacco, or Elmer Fudd are not the real problems. In my opinion, the solutions to systemic problems are rarely found in the creators of them. Those creators are the common denominators.

A rookie head coach lacks the authority, and immediate credibility to effect deep, and/or deeper cultural change while he's thankful for getting his opportunity to become a first time head coach. He will typically operate from a beholden platform. This is where Shane Steichen is.

He, I believe is trying to make it all work, and much like you stated, " it seems to be getting away from him ". That is an accurate assessment.

Unfortunately like any mid level manager, he must not condemn his superiors about their philosophies while taking it on the head for them.

Much like a great professional quarterback may do after a loss during a post game press conference.

For all of us, this is of course immensely frustrating.

The bottom line is no matter how we all feel, we absolutely know from seeing that this is a 500 team at best that is likely lesser than that this season.

There'll be no catching fire and going on any runs of victory this season. There may be additional wins, but even that seems truly unlikely.

The 9 and 8 season last year I personally believed was above our weight class, and fortunate. There was more fight in the belly of them all last year. They played beyond expectation in my view. In addition to the limited amount of tape available for the other teams to prepare against. Only theory, and fragmented tendency.

As Colts fans and well wishers we retain a sharp memory of what our team being successful can look like. I think it important to remind many that those years were indeed waited for, for decades before their arrival.

Another problem is when we look around the league and see several GM's such as Howie Roseman, Les Snead, and Eric DeCosta, and even Mickey Loomis bring their teams up from the ashes, and wheel and deal to bring steady streams of higher level talent into their respective organizations to maintain an almost constant state of winning football, and excellent product on the field.

Many of those men have somehow, and miraculously sustained that after initial success.

Other teams such as the Steelers for instance, and the Packers seemed to have rebuilt on the fly yearly and remained competitive.

Detroit, and Houston are new teams in the arena where newly built systems are off and growing and built to sustain along with signs of this in Washington as well.

The Chiefs with Brett Veach are masterful, and lead the charge in sustaining successes.

If the Colts wanted to win and compete like and with these other organizations there is no doubt they could. It however absolutely requires sweeping changes and far differing direction and philosophies that are currently employed.

So this brings us to where we sit now. Watching an organization, a team that we all love, and value struggle haphazardly like a terminally wounded animal languish seemingly helplessly over and over again.

Same reasons, same problems for many, many years. We all know the famous definition of insanity so I'm not going to quote that. I hate saying it, reading it, and hearing it spoken. It however seems true.

I can't say I don't care, and I can't say I'm going to, " leave the country ". Lol, this is my team, and my country both for many, many decades now.

I however want resolution. I want winners winning. Kent you were quite correct in pointing out that Mission Statement sign in the team's facility.

Those words ironically can all be achieved by the relentless pursuit of the one word you correctly cited in, " Winning ".

This coming weekend at the New York Jets, I do not care who starts at quarterback. I've taken myself out of the spin cycle. I really don't care but wish we could start Tom Matte. It would possibly be a great lesson for all about toughness, resolve and the will to win.

I'd like to see every quarterback we have in this organization start a game now, and have every one of them compete against each other from here until the end of the season. All four of them. Bet there would be some surprises too.

Well I wish I could say I feel better now about things but I don't. Thankfully I do have many things in my life I do feel happy about, and am paying more attention to them.

Thanks again Kent, and enjoy your evening and the game tonight.

  2. I'm tired of hearing, "We gotta get it cleaned up," because nothing appears to be getting cleaned up week to week. I don't see Ballard or any coaching staff getting fired until a slump in season ticket holder sales.

  3. Steichen unhappy? LMAO, try being a Colts fan. Fire that bum and put AR back in as QB1. The play calling is a disaster. The coach needs to go now. Who cares what he thinks at this point….

  4. He does not see what there seeing because as Nelson and Shane hinted at it's personal and private work and the extra on the side, it's in Irsays mission statement entertain there to entertained to entertain on Sunday… Like I've been saying the main issue isn't many of the coaches or front office it's the players they have to want it and be willing to give there all no matter the cost for the prize.. it's how every athlete should play the game they say they love no matter if there playing for people or not as a they know what they signed up for.. has nothing to do with all these other twisted and warped narratives…

  5. I really dont like sitting here, already disapointed in the teams performance this year, and feeling like i can still blame everygame on headcoach decisions. Btw yesterday looked exactly like riech and ryan. I cant be the only one feeling that all year.

  6. And the team plays likes amateurs for the most part, the coaching staff is weak, and if they continue playing Flacco they are sticking it to the fans. They are seriously in danger of losing the fan base.
Perhaps the Jets will be the antidote for the troubles.

  7. The Colts will have another starting quarterback next year. I'm guessing Justin Fields or Jimmy G. I don't like those options any better than the current ones.

  8. It's extremely frustrating to me, and I imagine many others, hearing Shane's consistent same old, same old bullshit phrases to essentially sidestep answering the question. So that has to be even more frustrating to you local media guys in the room asking the questions, and I appreciate the way James pressed him with very detailed questions today. But my goodness, we all know he's not going to say anything that he thinks would give opposing teams a tactical advantage, but the way he refuses to give an answer is maddening and I wish he'd just say I'm sorry but I can't answer that instead of repeating he's in the process.

  9. It's wild how little he seems to actually care. Both Reich and Pagano were well media trained but they actually seemed to care/be upset when we'd lose. Steichen is unphased and seems completely full of 💩

  10. As a Philadelphia Eagles fan, no one wants Shane Steichen to succeed in Indy more than I do. He single-handedly turned Jalen Hurts into a highly successful NFL QB… and before that he did exactly the same thing with Justin Herbert while coaching for the Chargers. Everything was now perfectly prepped for the trifecta with Anthony Richardson and the Indianapolis Colts…

But I also take stake in remaining as clear-headed and objective as one possibly can.

Clearly, Steichen is showing more and more that he is NOT cut out to be an NFL head coach. He has already proven himself to be a brilliant QB coach & offensive coordinator… being able to remain behind the scenes and stay focused on what he does best. But now as a head coach, Shane is looking very weak… and it's only been getting worse & worse as time continues to go by…

I've got to be honest, Ken, your local media pool there did an ABSOLUTELY GREAT JOB at bringin' it on… relentlessly… and Steichen was totally outmatched by the questions posed. As you said, Ken, the media just kept coming… and coming… and coming… and coming. And, unfortunately, Shane simply couldn't keep up.

We can all clearly hear the song playin', "Nowhere to run to, baby… Nowhere to hide…"

When he first got to Indy, one could tell that Steichen was set on keeping a mental/psychological upper hand on all you guys in the media. But guess what… the tables are now turning… and rightfully so.

Wishing you and the Colts' fanbase all the best there is to be found in the midst of an impending leadership collapse by the "Big 3" (Irsay, Ballard, and Steichen).

    "Fly Eagles Fly…!!!"
