  1. Eller has surprisingly played extremely well for the Penguins so far this year. Steep price, but it locks in a 3C for the year.

  2. This doesn’t really make much sense to me and we don’t really need him but FUCK YEAH WELCOME BACK KING!!! TIGER!!!

  3. That makes absolutely zero sense. I love Tiger and will always be grateful to his contributions in the Caps’ Cup run, but that ship has sailed.

  4. I guess this means Lapierre is going back to Hershey and that the Milano injury is going to keep him out of action for awhile.

  5. While I agree the 3C needed to be addressed via trade, I am 100% not a fan of this move. Eller is not a fast skater, not young, and does not produce enough offensively to help that line. Let’s not forget, there is a reason us Caps fans wanted Eller to be traded all 2022-2023 season…steep price as well that doesn’t include retention

  6. Well this was unexpected. Didn’t even think about this team making a trade so early in the season. But welcome back Lars!

  7. At first I was very confused. But thinking about the struggles with the third line it kinda makes sense

  8. A lot of people in here are going to be surprised by how good he still is. He’s aged like fine wine.

  9. will center vrana and mangiapane on the 3rd line which has been the line with the least identity and least click. should hopefully turn us into a 4 armed powerhouse

  10. They are seriously going for it. Yes, IT. Lord Stanley, is that you?

(And for the haters, let me dream, will ya?!)

  11. Yes we got a third line center LETS GO!

I still think Lapi can be really good but he clearly needs to marinate a bit more in Hershey.

  12. First Vrana now Eller. The Caps are being that person that gives you a gift and then later is like actually can I have that back. xD

  13. They should be sending one of either Lapierre or Sgarbossa down by tomorrow because their roster is now over the limit by 1 (24). And I’d guess it’s Lapierre. This is ultimately the best for everyone. The Caps solve their biggest problem in getting a reliable (though definitely not elite) 3C witout paying a ton. They are still technically ‘retooling’ and will be until Ovi retires so they don’t want to give up 1sts and 2nds for guys on expiring contracts near the trade deadline which is only what teams do when they’re all-in on winning now at the expense of their future.

This also means the team feels confident and relatively serious about competing. Eller is actually doing decently in Pittsburgh and his deal expires this summer which means they aren’t committing long term to a 35 year-old. If he can provide reliable minutes as a defensively responsible 3C that can also move the puck to his speedy wingers, then the price will be worth it.

And even better is that Lapierre finds his game in Hershey and comes back to seriously *compete* for that 3C spot. I am a bit sad for Sgarbs though as he probably gets the short end of the stick eventually.

I think I’m generally a fan of this move, and put my faith in the management who’ve earned so much trust after their work this summer. This may be what elite GMing looks like.

  14. What this tells me is that they are not confident in LaPierre’s development at this time and they feel Eller would really help Mangiapane and Vrana (or Milano) activate the third line.

Feel bad for LaPierre, but he’s only 22. He’ll be back.

As for Lars, love the guy. He’ll always have a special place with the team. But he’s also 35.
