  6. As someone who started watching after the All Stars, I’ve never known the Petey of legends but he looks much different from the player I’ve been used to seeing. Even on the bench! He looks like a giant weight has been lifted. Love to see it.

  13. I have been a petey apologist for a while now, BUT HE IS SO FUCKING BACK. Making moves, finishing checks, scoring, dishing the puck. Only a matter of time till we have some 3,4 or 5 point games from our king again. Petey haters are in SHAMBLES. Also how on earth did we get Brannstrom as a cap dump, buddy has been unreal and exactly what we needed on this team.

  15. 8-3-3 start with some adversity and now Petey is heating up and Demko and Joshua are close to returning, next few weeks could be fun

  16. A little bit dicey to start but from about the 10min mark onwards we were pretty dominant. Probably the best 60 minutes we’ve seen this season other than the Kings game last week.

    Lekk played well – had a lot of trouble pulling the trigger tonight but as I said in the game thread a few times I feel like Calgary scouted him as a scorer and they weren’t giving him much space. As a result it opened up a lot of space for Suter and Miller and their line was buzzing all night. Didn’t look out of place but definitely could use some seasoning before I’d say he’s ready for the show full time.

    I posted “Brannstrom quietly having a great game” literally two minutes before he scored. He’s been solid in his own zone and pulling a good transition game all night, and created chances. That goal was an absolute beauty slapper, glad to see him get his first as a Canuck.

    Speaking of the Brannstrom goal, Kiefer Sherwood deserved a point on that for his screen but he’ll have to settle for the +. He also had a fantastic night and was making stuff happen all night, especially in the third.

    Quinn Fucking Hughes. Can’t deny the “Huggy” nickname because he was hugging the Blueline all night in the ozone. Picking pucks out of the air to keep it in, fancy moves while he walked the line, solid pinches and just helping the team stay dominant throughout the game. Murph said in the last intermission that you can easily build a highlight package just off him every game, but you could almost build an entire highlight package just off his third period alone. Hard to deny that we’re looking at a generational defenseman here. Phenomenal game from our Captain.

    And finally Petey. People keep asking “Is Petey back?” and I kinda agree with Sat in that he’s not… exactly there yet. I know that’s funny to say for someone who literally got a goal and an apple, and first tied and then surpassed Bo to be the 10th all time in points as a Canuck, but there’s absolutely some pieces of his game that we know he’s capable of that he hasn’t quite tapped back into. But that’s not a Bad Thing because it means we have more to look forward to. What I will say is that his defensive game lately, and tonight in particular, is the best that I think we’ve ever seen from him. Great moves in the dzone and solid transition game. Offensively probably his best game since the All Star Game, but defensively his best game ever. Hard to believe but we haven’t seen his final form yet. I’m here for it.

  24. On broadcast they said 8 straight games we’ve given up the first goal, but we are 5-2-1 in those games. Gotta start on time but the resiliency is nice to see.

  31. Thoughts from the 500 level.

    The best players looked like the best players tonight.

    Quinn Hughes is the best player on earth right now. He looks broken out there. Like JR in NHL 94 levels of broken. It’s unfair to the other players that he can move like that.

    EP40, I’m a major hater. But he looked like the real deal tonight. 200 foot game, including a 200 foot penalty 🤣. But jokes aside he looked like a superstar and he was fucking hungry.

    Miller. I’m not sure if it was mentioned on the broadcast but he was in MAJOR discomfort early in the 1st. Played great but his passing accuracy was suss.

    Soucy and Myers looked solid against a dog ass talentless and tired flames team. Hopefully they can continue that.

    23 showed promise. He looks hella small and he got rubbed out/pushed out of position with relative frequency. But he was looking to shoot.

    Sherwood, is he ever going to have a bad game?

    Nice to see Brannstom get a goal. His body language was joyful.

    The flames. Woof, they looked like a team that had played 5 games in 8 nights. Vladar put in a very nice performance to keep that game looking reasonable.

  45. I am rewatching the game, but the Calgary feed. Hrudey just said something positive about the Canucks. I didn’t think that was possible.

  46. Man, if Suter had Lekkerimäki’s shot, he’d be a true first line winger. As it stands, he’s still a solid top 6 option. He makes every line that he’s on better. I think it’s likely that, despite all the new additions at wing, the best permutation of the Miller line, as it was last year, is still Suter/Miller/Boeser. 

    Which brings me to yet another post asking to see Sherwood in the top 6. He’s looked better and better as the season goes on. His forechecking puts the fear of God, or perhaps whatever demonic entity he is an emissary of, into defenders. They rush passes, cough up pucks, and generally make mistakes when he’s bearing down on them. I fucking love it. What’s more, he’s shown genuine offensive talent. He’s big, fast, goes hard to the net, is an elite forechecker, has an insane motor, a pretty good shot, sneaky good stickhandling (that ‘dipsy doo’ tonight as Shorty called it), is good positionally, creates rush chances with his aggressiveness and physicality…

    Please Tocchet, roll out DeBrusk/Pettersson/Sherwood for a game. The first time they were accidentally on the ice together for an offensive zone shift, they scored.
