I don’t think there’s a discussion to be had between him and either Judge or Soto, but definitely with Santander. It’s not a snub level offense but it’s an interesting discussion on what you value in an offensive player. Duran’s oWAR was 6.2 to Santander’s 3.7 which excludes defense.

Eh, Home Runs are weighted pretty heavily nowadays. I’m much more livid about Wilyer being snubbed for ROTY nomination over Jarren not getting Silver Slugger
Silver Slugger is not a WAR reward, nor should it be. Duran deserves some recognition for certain but Santander was a better slugger.
I’m okay with it, for no reason other than it results in bilboard material for the off-season.

Honestly, I don’t know what goes into awarding someone a Silver Slugger. There is absolutely no doubt that Duran is a much more significant offensive threat than Santander. And this isn’t the type of stuff I care about anyway. I’m just glad we have Duran and they have Santander.

No strong feelings either way on this one. Can’t really compare WAR here since that includes defense and baserunning while the Slugger award is purely for what you do with the bat. Santander and Duran had identical wRC+ (Fangraphs’ preferred all-in-one offensive stat). Santander had a much better SLG, Duran had a much better AVG. Judge and Soto were always taking 2 of the AL OF Sluggers, Duran essentially lost a coinflip for the 3rd
Sucks that Duran isn’t taking home any hardware for his MVP caliber season but them’s the breaks when you play the same defensive position as Varsho and the same offensive position as Judge and Soto

I’m okay with this. I’ve always viewed Silver Slugger as a celebration of HR/RBI’s. I think those should be the biggest contributers.

Double the home runs, 50% more RBI, higher SLG, Higher OPS+.
Who would I rather have? Duran, clearly. But I have no issue with Santander winning an award called the silver SLUGGER over Duran. He clearly was a better slugger.

They have the same wrc+. It’s close between them. I prefer the Duran profile but not mad at Santander winning
