Boston Celtics’ lack of effort: What went wrong against the Hawks?
Boston Celtics Stumble Against Short-Handed Hawks: A Wake-Up Call?
The Boston Celtics’ surprising 117-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks, despite the absence of Trae Young, raises questions about their commitment in the early part of the season. With 20 offensive rebounds allowed and 20 turnovers committed, the Celtics’ performance was marred by defensive lapses and a lack of effort.
John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal breaks down the Celtics’ struggles, focusing on their rebounding and turnover issues. He highlights the concerning pattern of slow starts and the team’s apparent disinterest in the NBA Cup. The discussion also touches on the Celtics’ defensive woes, allowing 68 points in the paint, which overshadowed their shooting advantages.
Can the Celtics overcome these challenges and refocus their efforts? Tune in for an insightful analysis of the team’s current state and potential strategies for improvement.

💯 Thanks John
Tatum likes to walk around on defense. You can tell when hes locked in
I will keep it a buck, John, but Tatum should’ve sat out last night. His ankle was not 100% after the Bucks. It was still sore, but the Celtics deserve the loss playing games in the fourth. For the Celtics if I was on the team I would ask for a players only meeting to discuss last night's performance.
I didnt get to watch this game so my opinion really doesnt mean much right now.. I have a feeling that theyre not as hungry now that they won #Banner18, Im a little disappointed that they havent come into this season with an even bigger chip on their shoulders especially after the summer🍀🍀
John, I totally agree with you. It seems the team doesn’t care about this NBA cup. I also feel like they are exhausted. I think JT should sit out for the Nets game. Mosquitos 😂
This team is going back to being "Trying to get over the hump"🤦🏼JT wants to win MVP?! He wont ever make it past 5th/6th in voting at this rate.. Now that they won it all last season, they just dont care anymore!! As a life long fan, it hurts my heart to see them picking and choosing when they wanna play
The hardest part for me about betting on team sports is predicting when teams will care.
Ugh… I got no words other than what an ugly ugly loss.
They dont need to take this emerits cup serious, they need to take WINNING serious💯 I'm willing to bet my streetball team would absolutely MOP the floor with this Celtics team💯🍀 Let us play, at least we will show up and play hard EVERY SINGLE game💯🍀
KP
Man I was all ready to make jokes about "Thank God Vit Krejci wasnt playing tonight" turns out its Snyder's Secret Stuff
I don't expect us to win every game however I do except us to play with defense, effort and act like we care. we have to many of these games were we are slipping and then trying to catch up or we blow a lead that we should have sustained easily. We are capable of more then what we have been showing.
Tatum should sit if he’s gonna give such a shot effort. Stop being selfish. White and Brown should always take the shots down the stretch.
Where’s Porzingis? Being paid 30M to sit on the bench in ugly turtlenecks. Guys isn’t reliable at all. Trade him in the offseason.
The Celtics have the same roster as last season. The biggest difference is that the team defense has not been there.
Something else: The turnovers are back!
The Celtics need to stop patting themselves on the back and start playing as the team that they were last season.
Good habits win! The Celtics need to bring that culture back to their team. Otherwise, they will be another one and done champ.
John I feel your pain 😔 with the game ☘️😎
Loosing to a team that is absolutely inept without their best player is just embarrassing
John I hope I'm wrong but now that they have WON a Championship this Team seems to not have the same focus and definitely don't seem like they want to be a Dynasty. They should have never lost to the Warriors I'm sorry they should have beaten the Warriors like Cleveland did and I'm not even gonna talk about Atlanta. We all remember how Anthony Davis played after he finally got his Ring I think we're in for a terrible Season of disappointment Remember you heard it here first yea it's early but it does not look good.
Wow, what a pathetic showing. The sky obviously isn't falling, but they need to stop f-ing around before they find out. I hope Joe ripped them after the game.
I thought their was no way they would lose this game. There should have been 4 easy wins in a row. Defense was sub-par, but I still thought they could have put the game out of reach 7 times and didn't.
The interior presence during this game was lacking on both sides. Understandable defensively, given the amount of offensive rebs but need to box out and corral those.
But offensively it seemed like the only person hunting paint touches was JB. Something to watch if teams deny the perimeter constantly if there is no threat or pressure to get inside. Although many of the entry passes to those in the post were 🤮
All said there was opportunity to try to win even though we lost the margins in rebounds, pts in paint & turnovers (half those turnovers were atrocious). Just need to focus up and execute + Tatum tweaked the other ankle on a block against Larry Nance (I believe he sits this next game out) so will be interested to see the response against the Nets tonight ☘︎🔒
Oh John, usually I love the takes but get this energy out of here man. Nothing about last night was a lack of effort. No team in the history of the NBA has gone undefeated, you are going to lose games. Atlanta played a good game, they have already seen Boston this year, Tatum was clearly hobbled with an an injury. Brown makes those free throws, the refs air on our side a bit more (Tatum clearly grabbed on that inbound), and KP back they are still going to be deadly. “Just because you refuse to shoot the gun don’t mean the gun ain’t deadly”.
Riiiight the team that brought back Tatum and Horford who were injured to play in this game against a team missing half their roster “didn’t care” about the in season tournament 😂
