  1. I think the Cubs is going to position the SP addition this off season as insurance (aside from Sasaki) depth for injuries, not a must NEED for top pitching. They still will give their young prospect a chance to develop, if you sign a big name, where Cade play when he comes up? And they have limited money to spend that have more pressing needs like catcher and bullpen and impact bat.

  2. There are multiple teams that could trade for both Bellinger and Hoerner. Now, this depends on where the big bats go, but teams that have holes at 2B and 1B/OF that also could have the desire to make a move are Yankees, Angels, Giants, Orioles, and Mariners. Trading for Castillo and Ford from Seattle would bring in a good starter and C prospect while freeing up about 16M. From the Yankees they could try to bring back Leiter Jr and one of their pitching prospects in the 8-20 range. Angels would need more to bring back OHoppe, probably taking Amaya and Wicks as well. Giants don't have much that would make me perk up, but it's more about opening up spots and money. Orioles have Coulombe that would be a nice add. And least one of those teams is going to miss out and the need would be there for the Cubs to fill.

  3. Seems like Ballesteros is the best hitter among all their prospects, including Shaw and Cassie. And I love Shaw and Cassie. You've got to get that guy in the lineup.

  4. There is absolutely no point in supporting this team at the moment. It is insulting to the fans that have backed this team during its last "retooling" while being fed the idea that the prospects will save the Cubs. Let's be honest for a moment. The 2015 -2016 run was an amazing stretch of baseball. However it does not happen unless the team signed Lester, Lackey, and Zobrist. That al of the top prospects did as well as they did before flaming out was amazing and rare in itself. If the Cubs ownership wants to act like 2016 makes everything better than look to the White Sox for a reference point. Twice a decade to go in on top notch free agents is not asking too much of a major market team. As far as I'm concerned that is the bare minimum of a team like the Cubs.

  5. You guys really need to look into Kirby Yates stats this past year…I've been talking about him and he's clearly flying under the radar. Plus as good of a hitter Shaw is …Ballesteros might be better…both need to be in the Cubs longterm future

  6. I just don’t get it!! Bellenger makes this team strong!!! If Ricketts is more about money than winning…to hell with him!!!
Jed Hoyer is not a leader…he’s a follower. Bring back Theo!!!!

  7. That doesn’t make sense we would eat most of bellingers contract and still get low return. Sound like waste of money to me, play him and see what he brings up until all star break then use that leverage. By then we should see how well prospects fit into their roles. This seems rushed to shop bellinger imo

  8. Good call on Kikuchi. 2.70 ERA with Houston, and I remember seeing a video about him changing his pitch usage dramatically with Houston. So I think something was unlocked

  9. I have said what Matt finally said today. Trade Paredes and Shaw at 3b, keep hoerner at 2b ( this would be a foolish trade), and then a platoon of Cassie/Alcantara in RF. Ballestero has to come up and be the 2nd or maybe the 1st catcher. It is time to see what scouting has accomplished. I agree, trade Bellinger and eat $7 mil and move on.

  10. This news is so Fing sad as long time Cubs fan. Tom needs to sell the teams and franchise and F-ing go away!
So, frustrating hear sad and crazy trade news. Why is Tom so cheap? Are we looking at 98s WIN team or 70Win team?
Tom can GFHS! Sorry for my French!

  11. Im a Horney guy. Hes got speed. Bellinger is a good player at 30 million. He was hurt twice last season for cris sakes. But I'm all for the propects to. Realistic I want a young team contend every year.

  12. Wasn't it Passan who reported the Cubs were looking to trade both Willson Contreras and Ian Happ, a couple of years ago……………and it turned out the Cubs were working on an extension with Happ and they were holding out hope Willson would give a big discount to stay? All the speculation the Cubs weren't spending money after the 2022 season and they then shell out $177 million to Swanson? From everything I've seen from the Cubs front office, is thet DO NOT leak any plans or directions they might be thinking about going.
