Travis d’Arnaud Joins Los Angeles Angels! What He Offers, Why It Fits Minasian’s Plan, Max Fried?
What do the Los Angeles Angels gain by signing Travis d’Arnaud? On today’s Locked On Angels, the Super Halo Bros. discuss the signing of the veteran catcher and what he brings to the table. How does this fit into GM Perry Minasian’s plan for player development, and how does it help Logan O’Hoppe grow as both a catcher and team leader? We’ll share our thoughts on the signing and what it means for Matt Thaiss, and if we believe it helps the Halos bring in a starting pitcher like Max Fried. It’s all happening on today’s show!

Thank the lorddddd we don’t have to play Matt thaiss anymore, love this move, another guy that was under Ron Washington in Atlanta, probably would let him catch around 50-60 games then sprinkle the rest of games around DH and 1B whenever schanuel needs an off day vs a lefty, people are saying 12mil is too much, but for a guy who was a main piece of that 21’ World Series, i guess its worth every penny.
The next step is to go out and get a high profile SP. Not sure what the market is for Shane Bieber or Nathan Eovaldi but I think Perry would be willing to give them anywhere between 15-20 mil AAV, just please don’t sign a guy like Patrick Corbin or a Mike Soroka to try to “bolster” up the rotation because that’s definitely something Perry would do, because it gets to a point where too much bad veterans don’t really affect to young players. Nate green over on talkin halos made a really good point that the young guys in the pitching staff had to look up to griffin canning. The dude sucked, I guarantee they learned nothing from him. But if they went and got a guy like Shane Bieber and he put up like a 3.5 era, people would actually pay attention to his craft instead of a guy who had double his era
Always a contributor and I've never seen him lollygagging. (Sorry, I love that word!)
Kyle Hendricks and Travis d'Arnaud is 36 I do not see these guys as saviors what about Matt Thaiss? The guys are utility players d'arnaud hit .238 last year in 99 agames.
He'll be 36 next season. Was Kurt Suzuki not available?
Good job gentlemen
So many Angels fans are going to be disappointed with this off-season. I understand why a lot of people here are trying to think positive and that the Angels will sign guys like Fried and some of the other big free agents, but I really wish they would set realistic expectations. This team is an absolute dumpster fire. Arte will really really, really really have to overpay to get the top players to come play here.
Any thoughts about the Angels building state of the art pitching and hitting labs?
The negativity surrounding this team is just unavoidable. It's everywhere and everyone dunks on them for even blinking wrong. It flat out sucks being an Angels fan right now
Not sure if we are Los Angeles Phillies (O Hoppe, Moniak, Aldegherri) or Los Angeles Braves (Washington, Soler, D Arnaud) 🤔
As a Braves fan, if Fried goes for free agency, I hope he goes to the Angels!
Love the d’Arnaud signing on every level! I think the next move Perry makes is Shane Bieber. It just makes a lot of sense. OC guy. He’s coming off TJ which is going to help us get him at a better price and plays into our favor for our window to compete starting in ‘26 and ‘27 with Rendon coming off the books. I see GM PM jumping all over Bieber and landing a 3-4 year deal around 18-20M per year.
Fried, Soto and burnes are the only players I’d be willing to let that 2nd rounder go. That said, I don’t think it’s the right move. Snell just makes way too much sense…totr arm with no QO that’s won multiple cy young’s. You overpay for that to anchor a spot in the rotation.
Ehh this is still following that bargain signing mentality and again another braves or Philly ex player. I get it we must be realistic but these type of signings are just not going to cut it we will again miss the playoffs.
Good signing. I wish my team jumped on signing D’Arnaud as a backup before you guys, but kudos to Minasian for getting this done.
Great pickup by Perry and company. Excited for what’s next
Great another washed up player. What about signing a quality pitcher.
It's crazy to think that we could trade Rendon for anything. Or is it! Here are three teams with compelling reasons to trade for Anthony Rendon:
Miami Marlins: Miami boasts more hospitals per capita than any other MLB city—perfect for a guy who treats the IL like a second home.
Washington Nationals: With warehouses full of unsold Rendon jerseys from his glory days, the Nats could cash in on the ultimate throwback merch fire safe.
Oakland A's: As the team preps for a Sacramento stint, Rendon would fit right in with state workers who’ve perfected the art of doing as little as possible.
I wasn’t able to get my off-season GM ideal plan in before you did the fan episode. But what do you guys think of a trade between us in Cleveland? They Jo Adell. We get Tristan McKenzie. Both change a scenery candidates, and fulfills needs for both teams
My trade idea – 1st I'm a HUGE Detmers guy but Im trading Detmers, Ward, Thaiss & a pitching prospect to Marlins for Xavier Edwards (3B/2B) & Jesus Sanchez (Outfield). 🤔🤔
I honestly think we getting Max Fried he is from Southern California and former Brave.. this would be great we get a number 1 ace to lead by example
The Los Angeles BrÅves of Anaheim
Offseason Angel false hope is in high gear boys.
Can we move on from Rendon already
Finally the angels do something positive…a good signing for the halos, he will be a help in the clubhouse and on the field 😅
This looks like a solid move. A subtle move, but possibly an important one.
Shouldn't the Angels make a play for Roki Sasaki? He is only 23 years old. At least make a play for him. AT LEAST.
I think they are at least a year or two away from signing QO guys in free agency, I would much rather go after Snell, they need to do everything they can to continue building the farm system
