Not to downplay any of this but I think it shows you that many of those players were sadly past their prime (Poyer, Hyde, Tre, Mitch) and then Gabe was always a bit overrated imo. I would definitely like having Floyd still since our pass rush is nonexistent at times.
None of them ended up being big losses. Losing Diggs hurt, but this is the point in the season where he starts to disappear anyway.
Not to take away from Shakir, Hamlin, Rapp, etc who have stepped up hard this year it’s hard to convince me we upgraded the roster.
I do look at this and can point to an upgrade of the offensive coordinator since then though…
Not sure Dodson was a key part of the defense. He’s a glorified special teamer.
Why is it always “Brandon Beane masterclass” and never “Sean McDermott masterclass”
Of course it was a good job by Beane but the fact that McD seems to be getting no credit for starting 8-2 despite losing all those players, integrating tons of new players into the starting lineup and dealing with one of our worst season of injuries in a decade is just so unfair
There are exactly two names on that list that would move the needle of skill and one of them still is turning 31 and just recently became out for the entire year.
BBB
I still hate his management of the 1 tech position and our defensive tackle group as a whole.
Tbh I think it’s more to do with moving on from Dorsey
“You sure?”
The only one I really miss is Floyd.
Welcome to having an elite QB. No matter what the FO does the team will be good still… but if they can get it right you have the chance to be great.
I’d argue Leonard Floyd was probably our biggest loss.
Floyd and diggs hurt, but the others were way past their prime. Still the 5-5 start was more about the offense being unable to put points on the board and close out games. They could have easily been 8-2 at this point last year
He’s fantastic
This also with 68 million in dead cap. 2nd highest in the league I believe
Busted bitch
Busted head case
3 sacks this year
Old and expensive
Busted goalie
Bad
Only successful in the right scheme
Brandon Beane is following the Bill Belichick playbook of moving off players who are past their prime. General managers can’t afford to be sentimental.
Super excited to be 8-2 during what many thought would be a “rebuilding” year. My only concern is that the Bill’s Strength of Schedule this year is 30 out of 32 teams. The next 4 weeks will show what this team is capable of for the post-season and how much we might miss some of those players we let go.
They never should have been 5-5 last year
Meanwhile our coach turned Christian Benford, Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin and Rasul Douglas into an elite passing defence and you guys are want him fired.
I like Beane and I’ve realised I was too harsh on him previously.
But trading away an ageing reciever to get younger, then trading in an ageing reciever shows a certain amount of reactiveness that is usually the calling card of the Jets.
And Telegraphing CB2, so Bellicheck could trade the pick to KC and hand them McDuffie was… tough. It was have cost 4m to Levi Wallace to obscure that pick and prevent that from happening.
And ignoring IOL and DT for so long is getting stale tbh. I love Keon Coleman and I’m happy to have him, but T’Vondre Sweat was right there and would have been absolutely transformative.
Gabe Davis literally lost the bills games because he was looking over the wrong shoulder.
Honestly the only one I think the team could use from that list is Leonard Floyd?
