  1. They don’t really show it in this clip but he thinks is gone and is trotting to first until it hits the wall. Makes scoring standing up a little more impressive.

  2. My favorite Ichiro/Griffey thing is when Griffey came back to the Mariners, he used to tickle Ichiro before games

  3. A year after this, a family friend became manager of the Mariners and got me and my parents tickets when they came to Fenway. He brought me on the field during warmups, decked out in all of my Red Sox gear. No one seemed to blink an eye at their manager walking around with a 7 year old Red Sox fan, except for Ichiro. Dude stopped what he was doing and just straight face stared at us for probably like 3 minutes, but it felt like an hour.

Guess what Ichiro? I’m taller than you now. The beef is still alive and well, let’s settle this like men.

  4. You, like me, did not expect an appearance from 1 time all star Gil Meche in this video. You, like me, assumed wrong.

  5. I know this correlates with “Everything is better when your 13” but as somebody who started watching baseball in 2003, the stretch from like 2004-2010 All Stars games are awesome. I would swim all evening, make a big bowl of popcorn and a chocolate frappe and watch them game. I would run and jump on the pool for like an inning in the middle of the game and then crank the AC and watch the rest of the game in bed.

It’s funny how our memories trick us though, I 100% remember this leading off the game, not happening in the 5th.

  6. I took my dad to this game. Seats on top of the wall in right, kinda just over towards the foul pole from where this ball was hit. We were in line for beer/food when this happened. Big oof. Sounded awesome though.

  7. I remember watching this live with my brother and as soon as it bounced off the wall I told him “he’s gone”
