Sauce has gotten a lot of shit for his poor tackling and social media shenanigans, but based on this it seems to be getting lost that he’s still shutting guys down in the passing game for the most part. I imagine the perception of him is worse than it actually is because of the poor tackling and getting burnt badly a couple times. Curious what others think

He’s still elite in coverage. If he actually lifted weights and worked out in the off-season he’d be first team all-pro again
My wife wears a Gardner jersey. That makes him the GOAT, end of story.
No – according to this sub ~~Sauce~~ Ahmad Gardner is a piece of shit who should care less about coverage and more about tackling.
He’s on a gold jacket trajectory at a premium position and some fans are talking about moving him for a first and change
His tackling is atrocious and he’s gotta stay off social media but he’s not a bum he’s just having a bad season by his standards
I think hes the same player he always was but i think teams figured out if you focus on high % throws that you can get yards on him because he cant tackle
His peripherals and talent are great. And some appear to think there’s a hivemind here that thinks he isn’t good or talented which couldn’t be further from the truth.
The aggrevation lies from him just being a complete liability in tackling and teams exploiting him for it. As was literally just shown this past weekend why throw at him when you can just YAC or run through and shed him?
He is still one of the best cover corners in the game but he has a hole in his swing that the coaching staff is not addressing while other teams jump on it.
He is a horrible tackler. The whole team is
I think he gets the blame bc he is looked at as the face of this defense, which has been bad this year compared to expectations and prior year performances.
I do have to say from an eye perspective without numbers, every time him and reed are thrown at I feel less confident everytime that they can deflect or shut down the receiver. I think Saleh leaving has caused the secondary to regress, and we might have to look at it as a need this offseason.
The post here last week telling people to not call him Sauce anymore was pathetic.
This guy is one of the very best players in the league at a critically difficult position.
Appreciate him while he’s here; because when he’s gone, you won’t see another like him for a long time.
What upsets me is he made zero improvement with tackling or his hands. If he got even marginally better there, he’s hands down the best corner in the league
I’m sorry, he’s not shutting anything thing down, let alone guys. Sure, bad tackling irks me, but he’s letting guys catching balls. That bothers me the most. I don’t know what this stat is, but it doesn’t jive with reality.
Most these casual fans don’t care just spew bs hate. Makes being a fan even worse than the team just losing
I always want to support our guys as a fan first. The tackling piece has been on my radar for a while because it’s becoming a weakness that can be exploited. Get him onto a bigger WR (or TE) and throw it short to make him tackle…or run it at him. There are ways to scheme up things to attack his weakness that if not improved can undo the amazing coverage piece. Additionally, the lack of big plays (turnovers) or lock down on big downs can magnify the generic big time players make big time plays/elevate their level to win games. He is consistent and our thin margin for error magnifies everything, so I guess it is unfair to critique vs merely wish there was that element present.
Hopeful things get to a more positive place and he dodges social media negativity/poison which the NY market (and losing cultures) can ruin.
I feel like if he can’t tackle and can’t get picks he at least then has to shadow the other teams WR1 all game. I have no idea if the reluctance to do that is on his part or due to scheme, but I think his value is limited if teams can just not throw at him while still utilizing their best weapons all game.
We need larger linebackers and safeties to make up for Sauce’s lack of physicality. Mosely has been missed.
There’s a reason you only see him once or twice a game, it’s cause he don’t get targeted. He sure does need to work on his tackling, but this guy was allpro 1st team his first two years for a reason
