Even with the same rotation, there are sliders that do not bend and sliders that do bend. Its important to remember how you’re throwing with your body. Rather than listening to what the person teaching the slider is saying, its best to see the release in slow motion.

Since learning from Darvish, what do you think has changed the most? It’s more like a type of slider, or the same slider, but with the feeling that you’re throwing something different. The way it rotates, or rather, the way it turns around.

I remember his previous slider, I thought he was throwing a really good slider. Of course, I think he’s throwing a top-level slider compared to his previous. He said he wanted to “change things more horizontally,” and from that perspective I think there is still more work to be done. I think he knows that too. It would be nice to see him pitch it in a game and get a strikeout.
Our starters are especially close and seems to help each other develop pitches all the time. Give me some Yu and Joe, sprinkle some Niebla in there, how does he not choose us?
Sasaki with all of Yu’s pitches will be the goat Japanese pitcher. Don’t hide under Ohtani’s shadow.
People keep underestimating this relationship. Roki isn’t a finished product and still has a ton of development he needs to do. He can do that development stress free in San Diego and not have that massive Japanese media following that Shohei travels with, which he’s already sick of.
The Padres are the best possible option if his main focus is developing as a pitcher. Yu is extremely respected globally and is a personal idol of Roki. Mix that with Nieblas track history of getting the most out of pitchers, SD has gotta be the most attractive if development is your goal.
