  1. You know I’ve always said that Jeff Blair is a super intelligent guy when it comes to baseball. Always trusted him and taken his word on things!

  2. It makes sense, ownership just shelled out huge money in renovations, if the team ends up being mediocre or rebuilding for the next 5 years ticket sales are going to drop and they won’t reap the benefits of those renos for a while.

Adding Soto/Ohtani will help fill seats and Rogers will charge based on the interest that they bring.

  3. It would one thing if Toronto was an offseason move or two away from being a contender, but unless Rogers is prepared to massively outbid the Steve Cohens of the baseball world I just don’t see why Soto would even consider the Jays at this point.

  4. The best selling agent is vladdy, lets be honest. I wouldnt trust atkins and shapiro to sell beer to a drunk.

  5. Every teams pitch involves ownership. Soto specifically asked for ownership to be involved in the process

  6. This is such a low floor statement. Basically saying the people who pay jays players are aware of the best available player that could be paid. Thanks for the deep insider knowledge Jeff!

  7. Until I see something with hard numbers and years I am choosing not to believe for the sake of my mental health.

  8. I think I’m finally mentally at the point where I’m ready to enjoy the ride and see where this goes, and accepting that if we actually get him then that’s a nice bonus

I just don’t want a repeat of “ooh thank god he didn’t go to Toronto that would have been so bad for baseball” if he is indeed a Yankee like I think he will be

  9. That’s great and all but what could we possibly offer Soto that’s a selling point?

Vernon Wells once said that players need a little extra to come to Toronto. Hyun-Jin Ryu confirmed this.

It’s a fucking hassle to go on road trips and come back and clear customs dozens of times per season.

It’s a stupid reason but that’s just the facts of us being the one Canadian foreign team in MLB.

Our team presently sucks. Our best player is only signed for one more season right now. A starting pitcher implied in a lengthy podcast that our organization is disorganized.

Again, would Juan Soto want to join this team for the next 10 to 12?

There’s a lot of teams in our position so I’m not just ripping the Jays but I really don’t think a Rogers suit is going to move Juan’s needle

  10. I won’t get my hopes up yet after what happened with Shohei ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|feels_bad_man)

  11. We’re still going on with this nonsense, eh?

Aim for Soto all off season, end up with Tommy Pham just before spring training starts.

  12. Shouldn’t the Jays be focused on signing Vladdy Jr. ? It would make more sense to do that to attract other free agents who would want to play with Vladdy.

  13. This post ignores the rest of the discussion where Jeff (correctly) pointed out that as a big-budget team, the Jays almost *have* to make an offer to him but have zero chance of actually getting him.

Juan Soto is not coming to Toronto folks. It’s the Mets or bust.

  14. Maybe Ed can show Soto the statue of his father outside the Dome. That would probably seal the deal.

  15. Juan Soto is not coming to Toronto. Everyone needs to move on. The blue jays need to nuke Shatkins and Shitpiro.
