Are the Cardinals tanking in 2025? Here’s what you should ACTUALLY expect

The Cardinals have been careful not to use the term rebuild for the team’s current shift in philosophy that is being planned for 2025. They prefer to call it a retool or a reset.

Is there distinction in the difference? Brenden takes another swing at outlining exactly why the Cardinals might be right to care about the language used surrounding what’s about to happen to this club next season — because they’re right, it’s not really a rebuild and it’s definitely not tanking.

  1. It's a rebuild you can't win with all kids you have to have Veterans as well we have a new tv deal There is no reason why they can't spend a little bit.Not a lot and build on the 83 wins from last year but we all know that they won't That's what happens when your owner is cheap

  2. I have been a fan since 1968 and seen a lot worse i will be a fan next year and the next years to come
And i know this wont set well with some but as a free agent i would choose a different team even for less noney than play for the coaching staff that is here
But as i said earler i am still going to root for the Cardinals

  3. Spring 2024 I said they would finish below 500. I was wrong. That bullpen was one of my favorite groups the cards have ever fielded. It was the reason my prediction was off. Can not wait to see what names and where come spring. Im more excited about Cardinals baseball this coming year than i have been since mid 2014

  4. May be in the minority on this,
I seem to spend a lot of time there. I think we would be best served moving Arenado. Freeing up 3B for Gorman or Donnie if needed. Thinking it will go a long way to removing the 🌧️ from the clubhouse. Just my gut feeling. If we can figure out the bullpen, thinking we will actually be better than last year.

  5. I see the 2025 season as potentially having a higher ceiling than 2024, but also the possibility of a lower floor. And I'm okay with this! The caveat is that we actually need to let the kids play, and be willing to cut ties with some, if they don't pan out. Examples of this (for me) are Nootbaar, Gorman, and Baker. Listen; it's high time these guys either show up, or make room for the next man up. Baker is 27, and will be 28 by the start of the 25 season. if he cannot get the job done, then it's time to part ways with him. Gorman is going to be 25 this coming year, and Nootbaar is 27. These guys have had several years to earn their spots, and I'm far sold on any of them. But, that's what this year should be! Give these guys every opportunity we can until we get a sense for ehat they can contribute. If they don't? Okay, now we know! If they produce? We legitimately could finish around 85 wins!

In short; my expectations are low for the clubs record, but I see it as laying the foundation for consistent success in the future, and maybe even squeaking into a surprise wild card spot along the way! I've said it before, and I'll say it again, I'm actually excited for 2025, as win or lose, we should finally be getting course correction.
