Jorge Soler Trade To The Angels Makes NO SENSE…AA STRIKES AGAIN!

The Braves and Angels came together on the first big name trade of the offseason when they executed a Jorge Soler for Griffin Canning trade on Thursday Afternoon. It’s a great trade for the Braves, but for the Angels…it’s another miss when it comes to payroll and roster construction.

  1. clear proof that the Angels organization is terrible. the As are the worst but the Angels might be the perfect example of incompetence. they're trying but they always shoot themselves in the foot. it's like they don't even think about these things

  2. I expect canning to get DFA’d. He is out of options. Now if MLB will just finish the investigation on David Fletcher and suspend him that would be great!

  3. I wonder how Angel's fans must feel knowing Shohei Ohtani won a world series championship with the Dodgers while not going anywhere with the angels for 7 years 🤣

  4. The Braves wanted to get rid of the extra two years of salary because they won't need him when Ronald Acuna returns. Griffin Canning has only 1 more year of salary arbitration. So that's not a long commitment to a pitcher who has been ok, but not spectacular. Plus, the Angels do need the offense that Soler brings and can afford to take on $16 million of salary for each of the next two years.

  5. Starter. Atl gets a guy who pitched 170 innings. Now he is not a good pitcher. But they need arms.
That's a good 1,2,3 IF they all pitch well. Will Sale give them another great year. Can the other 2 pitch at the level they did in 2024?

  6. This made no sense…Braves get a free pitcher from the Angels, that's good for them. Soler to the Angels…Isn't Trout supposed to be a full time DH? So getting another DH makes no sense.

  7. I like Soler but I have no problem with this
Braves needed to move his $26M
Ozuna's $16M option is getting picked up
Outfield was getting crowded-Acuna, Harris, Kelenic, w/ Eli White and/or Laureano coming back
50/50 on if they keep Canning

  8. Angels have a lot of really good arms in the pipeline. Angels worked hard with Canning and couldn’t get him right. Maybe the Braves have the secret sauce to make him a viable big league pitcher. Angels, last year were near the bottom in slugging percentage. Soler will help address that. I like the move.

  9. You’re giving Atlanta too much credit and you don’t understand that the Angels weren’t moving forward with Canning and were in the market for a hitter like Soler. I don’t know what’s so difficult to understand the move. Trout will not accept a full-time DH role. He’ll sooner ask for a trade. Consider who DH’d last year for the Angels including Willie Calhoun, Miguel Sano and Kevin Pillar. This move isn’t what you say. It makes plenty of sense for the Angels. Your take is more reliant on franchise history biased. You’re correct on the Ward or Adell trade possibility. Have you seen Ward play LF? Why not Trout to LF, Soler at DH and trade Ward for a pitcher not named Griffin Canning.

  10. Angels fan here… not here to hate. I hope Canning does well with the Braves however it seemed like this last year he gave up 5 runs each outing in the 1st inning. He pitched a lot of innings but that’s all you get out of him. Maybe the Braves fix him. Idk

Soler has some pop that we haven’t had. We don’t have a scary bat in the lineup when Trout is out. This past year our scary bat was who? I know he is 32, strikes out a lot and isn’t the greatest outfielder. Mike Trout is getting hurt at this point in the box so I’m not sure he can even be in the DH role every night.

I do think Ward like you said is likely to be traded. I think we will be after pitching.

  11. Jim, Trout's injuries have all happened while batting, not fielding. Trout won't be playing CF anymore, but he will still be in LF or RF. Also Soler is only owed 13M per year, not 16M. His salary cap hit is $16 because he got a signing bonus from the Giants. But with the Angels being under the cap, the only number that matters to them is the $13M, not the $16

  12. The Angels aren’t anywhere near being done with the roster moves this offseason. So we can’t knock this move until we see what Perry can pull off by the end of the offseason. Arte finally gave Perry permission to go spend some big boy money so expect the Angels to be linked to many big names this offseason. Trout is also not gonna DH every game he’s gonna slide to LF or RF as well as share some time at DH with Jorge Soler

  13. Was a head scratcher for me. Very few teams need pitching worse than the Angels, even one as marginal as Canning. One aspect you did not mention…Trout getting traded???

  14. As a Braves fan I'm sick of Alex Anthopolis doing stupid move. Will Canning be the replacement of Fried? He's saving money 💰 for giving to Morton.

  15. You're probably going to retract your statement after watching Canning and his inconsistencies. If he can get that under control, then the Braves got a steal from the Angels!!!
