[Ari Meirov] The #Bucs have claimed veteran safety Mike Edwards off waivers, bringing him back to Tampa Bay, where he was drafted, played for four years, and won a Super Bowl.

  1. When he got released so quickly from the Titans I had a feeling he was coming back here.

We should be running 3-3-5, 3-2-6 a lot.

  2. We are like his 3rd team in the last 10 days. Cant hurt at this point but I’m not expecting this dude to be like the old gravedigger days. Whitehead isn’t the same guy either.

  3. Awj whitehead and Edward’s back together let’s go. Too bad we already have 2 good slot corners, but exciting either way

  4. I was hoping we’d sign him. Maybe it doesn’t work out, but he was solid when he was here and we really need more depth in the secondary.

  5. Good low risk move but not sure it’s going to help much aside from potentially generating turnovers. He was never the best cover guy.

We need a linebacker that can move better than my grandmother (looking at you Britt)

  6. People criticizing the scheme even though Bowles has had this defense play at a top 10 level throughout his time here. In 2019, when Bowles arrived the defense struggled at first due to Bowles’ scheme being more complex. When everyone figured it out, we were near elite. We’ve had a lot of injuries and have been forced to play with a younger inexperienced defense. The younger players struggling to understand Bowles’ scheme makes more sense as a cause to our defensive struggles than a top 10 scheme suddenly being terrible. Bringing in a veteran that knows the system well is a smart move.

Bowles is a terrible HC, criticize him for that all you want, but the narrative that he’s an awful defensive mind is flat out wrong.

  7. Ok leave only Lavonte in the LB spot, bring Whitehead down in the box, keep Tykee in the nickel, and roll out AWJ and Mike as true safeties. When we get Dean back, a dime-nickel hybrid like that is our best chance.

  8. Edwards might not be as good as he used to be if he’s getting released by multiple teams.
