[Schad] Tyrel Dodson on Seahawks release: “I’m pissed off. I will probably stay very pissed off until my career ends.” What happened? “We’re still trying to figure that out… I think I played pretty well. I was a leader.”

  1. My dude, if your head coach who calls the defensive plays is talking about how many mistakes the “second level” makes every week, then you are not “playing well” by any stretch of the imagination.

  2. Too bad our front office is too professional to make our side public. I’m super curious (if there is anything other than he just wasn’t good enough)

  3. IDK man, we were talking about how allowing ONLY 160 yards rushing was a victory, there was something amiss…

  4. He was the green-dot every interview Macdonald kept discussing communication issues.

Every week except 2 Mike Macdonald quite literally
Singled out poor linebacker responsibilities for our issues.

I mean I’m not a mathematician but seems to add up. Plus realistically they need to see what they truly have with Knight and if he can’t play they’ll likely need to address that position in the draft.

  5. I think he’s trying to save face, we all know the egos on athletes. I can almost promise he knows why he was dropped.

I’d wager they told him he was losing his job to Knight, and then he asked for his release. Now he is saying this stuff so he doesn’t have to tell the world he got beat out by a rookie.

  6. >“I think I played pretty well. I was a leader.”

Says the center of the 26th ranked run defense.

  7. Ah , do what you gotta do bro . Maybe this will be a learning experience. I hope he plays better because of it .

  8. this answer perfectly encapsulates why i think he was cut. if he can’t understand why he was cut then he can’t understand what a coach wants him to improve on. i’m sure macdonald was very blunt and straightforward and for that to seemingly go in one ear and out the other… it doesn’t surprise me they decided to cut bait.

  9. Reading this comment section makes me feel like I wasn’t the crazy one. The media framed this as a shocking move and here I was saying it was because he just wasn’t any good.

  10. I didnt realize how bad the linebackers were playing until we got earl jones. Then it was clear as day

  11. > New Dolphins LB Tyrel Dodson will start out as back up and special teams.

Starting LB for Seahawks is a special teams/backup for the dolphins. Didn’t see that on the 2024 Seahawks Bingo

  12. Dodson was a leader *before* the snap. He pointed issues at the line and then got blown up by the same. That would be frustrating as a coach.

  13. Hey Tyrel, no mystery here bud – I watched the All 22 until I couldn’t watch it anymore.. you were getting washed out of most plays unfortunately and I’m pretty sure coach also noticed

  14. Macdaddy better gets his shit together this next draft or his ass is going to be next on the chopping block for real. They have got to make changes this off-season to be able to fight, these lame DL, and the handicapped OL. A deeper bench is needed as well. I like Mike, but damn it’s just messy in Renton right now.

  15. there was something unsettling about how he was waived and tbh I think this is a reasonable reaction, like you can’t fault an athlete for being confident, betting on themself etc

Not saying it was necessarily the wrong move from Mike Mac/JS or whatever though

  16. And I can remember everyone literally jacking themselves silly over this signing in the summer and praising JS.

At some point, JS needs to be held accountable for these atrocious signings.

  17. Dodson had his moments, especially early in the season. But yeah, for a pretty complex defensive scheme in the front-7, he wasn’t cutting it.

I think he’s a solid player, just didn’t adapt well to what Mac is doing here. It sucks that a guy in his prime couldn’t catch on with us, but the next guys up are even younger and have promise. It’s a pretty good vote of confidence in guys like Knight and Thomas that this move was made. Hopefully they step up and fill their roles!

  18. We weren’t winning anything this year anyways. Might as well find out what we have in some young players.

  19. Don’t let the gate hit you. No instincts, not motivated or strong enough to take on blocks from even WRs. No way this dude is anywhere near the 237 he’s listed at, looked more like 217 if that, getting tossed like a DB every rep he wasn’t 20 yards from the play.

All the worst downsides of a modern pass coverage LB and he’s absolutely dreadful in coverage.

He singlehandedly changed my mind on PFF grades after being ranked #2 OVR last year.

  20. This guy kills me. Takes bad angles to the ball all the time that opens up the outside for the runners. As LB’s they shouldn’t be tackling guys from behind every play. Glad to see him go. Sad part is he only has to watch Bobby Wagner film to learn how to play nfl level linebacker. Guy is physically gifted just isn’t playing smart football so he’s out of position way too often
