  1. It’s like we’re trying to outsmart the film watchers on year 1 but we’re just outsmarting ourselves instead

  2. Numbers like this need context. Also kind of tired of the complaints on running plays overall. Mixon is legit looking like he’s still very well in his prime, he should be getting 20 carries a game. Without Mixon and Pierce then yeah fuck it, throw it every down unless we need Dare to do something clutch.

  3. Yeah that’s because when they pass on 2nd & 3rd and long CJ’s been getting the shit knocked out of him. The Lions game with the best past protection I’ve seen all year and it still wasn’t that good.

  4. The throughline here is: regardless of whether pass/run is being called we’re having little success of 1st and 2nd so we end up facing a lot of 3rd downs. We have 140 3rd down attempts on the season which is 2nd most, 2 attempts behind the Giants.

We actually have a [1% higher conversion rate on third down than last year](https://www.teamrankings.com/nfl/stat/third-down-conversion-pct) lol but that minor improvement is watered down by how little success the offense is having on 1st and 2nd down.

3rd down attempts alone obvs don’t paint a complete picture but I think it’s telling that we’ve faced so many. We don’t have a lot of success on 1st and 2nd and that tells me defenses have keyed into what the offense is doing and we’re mainly having success of third down thanks to CJ being CJ.
