But on the other hand, so does the lighting and setting. Are they going to look good on court?
They look better on the players in this promo shoot but I still much prefer last year’s city edition jerseys
They aren’t the best.. but damn our boys look good any jersey!
Honestly I think this is a huge step for the brand but they’re executing it all wrong.
having something different than the classic colours is a good thing, it makes the brand more diverse and appealing in different ways. But they’re not supporting the new brand extension with enough storytelling (aka marketing) to get us fans behind it. A fun name is not enough.
As for design, the typeface is a bit too similar to our regular. The bright green is different but they’re trying to borrow from the love of the statement jerseys by pairing it w black. It’s so obvious they’re playing it safe and in doing so falls flat.
Instead, they need to build out a larger alt branding, with some storytelling connecting it to the main Celtics values in some way – same Celtics, different energy.
end rant
but start fun rant
ive been thinking about how the Celtics can bring gold back. They have the leprechaun but they keep it v surface level. I think it’d be really cool to dig into the history of the Irish immigrants in Boston and build out a connection to somewhere in Ireland (like sponsor a pub and do basketball camps) to create an ethical alternative branding that brings the Irish culture front and center.
The myths, music, dance. This Active green and gold w a tartan Print? Pots of gold w the sound of gold coins? And to connect w the Celtics, The deep tradition of winning and seeing gold w every trophy? Let’s get crazy about gold. That’s a brand story I’m excited about, im ready to have fun!
End rant 2 please lmk if I’m smoking too much weed
I generally don’t think city editions should exist, but as long as they do, you could do a lot worse than these (see: Pacers)

OK, seeing them on makes a huge difference.
