if they remove the 3pt line Steph's salary gets removed with that instantly
… maybe is this the reason why NBA's rating has dropped?????????????????????????
I have to disagree with the "bad TV" comment. Maybe it's just me, but seeing dudes flying over other dudes all game long is boring. I want to see it, but dispersed throughout the game, not all the time. The plays needed to create the good looks for a 3 pointer are also a thing of beauty and, as Jimmy pointed out, create then the runways to launch a thundering dunk. By the way, if what you love is dudes flying, then you probably don't like Jokic. If you don't like Jokic, then, my friend, you cannot really enjoy basketball. Go watch the Globetrotters instead. Or circus.
There's a fallacy of thinking the middy is the default shot. Nothing is breaking, it's just changing.
does this mean smaller guys have a chance at getting to nba since you dont need to be 1.9m tall to shoot a 3
The NBA is playing NBA Jam.
my dumb idea thatll never happen is to make it so that teams have a limit to how many 3s they can shoot in a game. if they shoot 3s past that limit, it's a turnover. this rule will force teams to be more selective of their 3s and could create some interesting moments with players shooting 3s past the limit
Your analysis really brings out the drama and energy of what's happening!🔥 It's amazing to see how the game continues to evolve, and you capture the intensity so well. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds! 🏀🏀
The NBA is so boring to watch now, I don’t even turn it on. I used to love watching games and checking box scores for more than 30 years, but I’ve lost interest, it’s no longer fun or interesting to watch any more.
We don't need a 4 point line. We need a longer 3 point line.
I’ll say it. They’re playing basketball like girls. Not in a derogatory way. Hear me out. Lisa Leslie was the first female to dunk the basketball in the WNBA. All the critics said “ewww that’s not lady like”. Now we have more acceptance of that but in the meantime, the NBA is doing all of these (missed) three-pointers, much like how the WNBA used to be during its inception. Thus they are playing basketball like girls. The second thing I’ll say, is the difference in breed vs pedigree. Same but no. The NBA has taken out the “Street” element of playing basketball (breed). Usually good very good prospects wouldn’t come from AAU basketball or universities. They would come from places like the hallowed Rucker Park in New York. But that recruiting method had its drawbacks it didn’t make good television to have people fighting an entire arena. I mean. It DID. But it wasn’t good for the bottom line. Or it wouldn’t make good headlines if you pew yourself with a click-clack or get caught with a click-clack. So they stop looking for breed, and started looking more toward AAU and universities who have far less “Street” in them (pedigree). Thus, they are more pliable with rules because the pedigree. These two things are killing the NBA. You heard it here first. OGSP out. And no Ja Morant is NOT breed he’s a highly influenced (by other non breeds) pedigree.
Reminds me of how teams somewhat optimized baseball (launch angle for homers, pitchers only focusing on strikeouts, extreme defensive shifting, rarely stealing bases) and so the league has been trying to adjust the rules to incentivize non-homer hits, base stealing and pitchers not going max effort for 4-5 innings max. In this era of big data, team sports are going to find optimal ways to play–which isn't bad in and of itself, but can lead to every team and every game feeling the same as every other.
Goddamn I love this channel.
Shout out to all the three-point shooters in high school that were relegated to sitting in the corner. Oh how we’d love to play in todays game
flight gon love this vid
@jxmyhighroller Really wish you talked about the Nuggets who seem to be the biggest outlier for all of this.
This is why Giannis might be one of the greatest players in this era
So 4s, 3s, frees are two, and dunks are 3. Do the math.
Layups should be 1 point. Dunks 1.5 so they don't lose their value. Mid range 2.0 points Three point line – 3 points
Create in game challenges. Can also make the game more competitive.
This will make the game more interesting.
Shit's unwatchable, sadly.
this is why I loved the 90s. Players like Reggie and Mad Max were special and someone like Big Smooth was unique. Now, after guys started to hit more and more fast-break-3s and logo-3s in the recent years (something your coach in the 90s would bench you if you miss), everybody has the green light to chuck up anything from anywhere. I hate nothing more than a successful fast-break-3. It ruins the game. In the past, players would miss and just get benched. Now, too many fast-break-3s and logo-3s are going in so its not a big deal anymore, if you miss one or two. If I was a hornet fan, I would have left the game Jxmy just showed. Things are getting out of hand, this is unwatchable. Its not basketball anymore, its 82 allstar 3-pointcontests + bonus rounds in the playoffs.
ALSO less injuries!!!!!!!!!
A big example of correlation =/= causation That 72% winning because they had more threes CAN be an indication that the opponent is BAD at perimeter defense or defense in general. Or guarding the PnR. If you are bad at those, you give up more open threes.
I think it could make sense to limit 3-pointers: first 5 or 10 or some other number of 3-pointers made in a half are worth 3 points, the rest are worth 2 points. This will not discourage to make shots byond 3-point line, but will make the end of a half more interesting. This could give rise to new point tactics.
I think the three situation is going to get worse with time, at the end of the day its not that difficult to hit a three especially if you’re open. Players are going to get even better at it with time
3-point highlight reels aren't exciting. And the only reason 3-point attempts are more valuable is because the NBA allows pretty blatant moving screens and this stupid 2-3 step stepback moves to get open.
2s becoming more valuable than 3s could just mean that more teams have essentially eliminated the mid range shot. It doesn't necessarily mean that all 2s are more efficient. So no, it doesn't necessarily mean teams will start shooting more 2s and 3s will drop. As long as the shot 5 feet away from a mid range jumper is worth one more point there's no reason to stop taking so many 3s.
It’s not quite the same but bear with me here. There’s a saying when it comes to video game development that I think applies here: “players will optimize the fun out of games.” NBA teams will do the same because they wanna win and sometimes what’s most effective is the not the most fun.
nba viewship is declining year over year. This won't help
For once I agree with Nick. I personally hate watching teams just chuck up 3's. It's really boring to watch.
That sequence in the hornets celtics game was crazy but importanat to note the hornest were hitting them.. its more mindblowing to keep taking them and missing
You always know how to take stats in the perfect context and understand them enough to actually glean insight from them to make a point instead of using them to further a point you already had. Good work
I haven't been watching nba games for years now. Games are so homogeneous that it is simply boring to watch.
The best thing for the league is pace and space because it offers the dunks and layups of Ja Morant and a 50 piece by Wemby. The worst thing is fouling and stagnant post offense.
that charlotte shot meter looks like cash nasty one
