Owen Pickering recalled from WBS

  1. Didn’t see that coming, watched a few Wilkes games and he looked very raw but OK

Hopefully it works out he’s a great kid, type you really root for, let’s go Owen !!

  2. Good. Nobody wants to watch Matt Greczlyk and ask the question “is he worse than Jack Johnson?” Anymore. Let the kids play and if the bottom falls out so be it.

In a perfect world Grelczyk, Graves, and Nieto see the ice at any point so they can experiment with the few prospects they have.

  3. Now I’m curious if they are sending down St Ivany or Shea, or are they possibly trading a defenseman?

  4. I mean with two of the worst teams in the league playing us this weekend might be a good time to get Pickering a little NHL experience. Definitely very raw and needs some more time to fully develop but I don’t see the harm in giving him a few games to see what to expect at this level. He showed a lot of good promise and potential in the preseason

  5. Y’know what’s awesome about this year’s Pens? We have prospects we can *give* playing time to.

We’re not doing that “well, in a few years, our best prospect will play his first shift as a 24 year old” bullshit, we’re utilizing our prospects WHILE they’re prospects.

I don’t care if it’s desperate as all hell *what if* Pickering just comes in and goes on a tear?

It’s nothing against Grzelcyk or Graves either, the issue with them is their greatest weaknesses are masked on the bottom pairing but the instant they have to play with Letang or Karlsson they get exploited.

They signed Grzelcyk to be a *solution*, not to be a greater problem, if one of them has to come out of the lineup for a couple games? So be it.

  6. I haven’t watched him play but his stats don’t look like promotion material. What am I missing?

  7. It’s really early for a Pickering call up but the kid is probably oozing with confidence after the game he has last night. I also very much don’t that they’re gonna play a rookie on his off-side so this screams being the precursor to a Pettersson trade. I’d prefer Dubas wait until the deadline so he can get way more value from a desperate team but if he’s got something solid lined up, I guess go for it.
