Let Team USA make their own bed, their goaltending is going to be a headache enough to deal with
US depth at wing is actually pretty insane and it all comes down to what else can the player do outside of scoring. And PP1 is already crowded.
They probably don’t trust his complete play, same reason why some people think Hyman will be left off team Canada.
Or maybe they think he just had a hot start and will go cold in the second part of the year? It’s Bill Guerin in charge deciding on this so maybe he just doesn’t trust his size.
A guy like Brock Boeser who scored 40 goals last year, is good defensively and had 2 hat tricks in playoffs is not even included in conversations, that’s how deep the team is
I would 100% try to re-create the duo Hughes-Caufield.. it’s not like they broke records together or anything. Add to them a Tkachuk..👀

He’s not a top 6 guy on that team and typical hockey guy thinking would prefer bigger guys in the bottom 6.
He should play for Canada, that would be hilarious. Do a reverse Brett Hull 🙏!!
I’ve said it since he came into league, if he’s a defensive black hole then it doesn’t matter how many goals he scores. Especially that he’s on the first line in mtl. He really needs to be more responsible defensively.

No reason for a gold contending national team to pick a tiny specialist who only does one thing well. One of their best players already does that one thing better too. Caufield is good in the NHL because of the salary cap. In theory he will do Matthews’s best thing just as well for half the cost of matthews which gets you an extra 7M for defense, instead of paying 7M just for the other half of offense, but team USA can have everything so they don’t have to think about that
Not surprising if they want to win. He’s too small and can’t defend.
By virtue of his Canadian father and grandfather, perhaps Caulfield could play for Canada?
