Just listened to the Marty McSorley interview and him making every excuse in the book as to why it was not his fault. Namely saying that his intention was to hit Brashear in the body with his stick. Here’s a video, you decide.

  1. Maybe we both need a relisten to the interview. My take was he was literally trying to say he DID hit the shoulder and then glanced up to the head, which is so clearly not the case, even in SD.

I could accept he wanted to hit him in the shoulder and it went bad, but there’s no fucking way it hit the shoulder and glanced.

I’ll take another listen and see if I missed it, but either way fuck that guy.

  2. Fuck McSorely. Brashear already fought him twice that night. The Vancouver Giants brought that piece of shit in for a ‘legends of the sin bin’ night. Terrible marketing. I hope he gets booed relentlessly and chased outta town

  3. He was convicted for assault for this.

The judge went on an extended discussion about the difference between the rules of the game, the “code”, and the law. He said when players consent to play the game, they accept that rules will be broken. It is not the rules of hockey that governs permissible conduct but rather the unspoken code which players implicitly agree to by playing. Because assault is an non-consensual application of force, the judge found that not only was McSorley breaking the rules, but he was breaking the code, and therefore applying force to Brashear in a way that violated the physical contact he had implicitly consented to. Therefore, McSorley was convicted.

  4. So fucking blatant that his intention was the head.

There’s no attempt to hit anywhere else.

If his excuse was he was going for the body why does he raise the stick up to head level and then do it.

    Fucking trash.

  5. Remember the night this happened. I was just a kid.

99.3 the Fox used to do comedy songs, and they had one that was like “you’re an asshole, Marty McSorley” at the time.

  6. McSorley can say whatever he likes, but by all accounts he was an absolute hothead on ice and wasn’t always able to control his temper. I’ve seen him completely lose his shit on multiple occasions in the past where his own teammates had to restrain him: https://youtu.be/EQhIlgc_Sh4?si=sX81VdxVwlAKaaJU

This slash on Brashear’s head was 100% on brand for him, more so because of all his concussions. The man was playing far beyond what should have been medically allowed. So it’s entirely likely he did this and could not control himself when doing so. It’s actually kind of sad.

  7. McSorley is a jackass.

This was more than 20 years ago. He’s 61 years old now. That he’s actually gone *backwards* in not taking responsibility for his own stupidity is just sad.

  8. Some restarted kid back in highschool tried to do this to me in a game of indoor hockey. My buddies stopped him before he could

  9. Not only did he defend his actions, he took the opportunity to completely shit on Brashear. I had to turn the interview off. That is one sick puppy.

  10. If he meant to hit the body his forearm would’ve been parallel to the ice not angled up. I didn’t notice until now that it looks like Brashear hit his bare head on the ice as his helmet slid off just before impact.

  11. Some people deserve to get hooked on painkillers and die homeless. McSorley is one such person.

    Hopefully the CTE gets him.

  12. It kind of sounded like he felt it was Mark Crawford and Brashear’s fault that he lumberjacked somebody in the head with a hockey stick

  13. Seriously, anyone who’s going tonight needs to boo the absolute hell outta this idiot. What a piece of shit

  14. That interview on Halford & Brough was something else lol. I hope people boo the fuck out of him tonight at the Giants game.

  15. That interview was so awkward. McSorely sounded like such a piece of shit. He blamed everyone except himself (media, court rejecting expert witnesses, Brashear, Crawford, chinstrap rules, the NHL etc). All he had to say was that he meant to hit the shoulder, missed it and hit him in the head. At least then people might give him some benefit of the doubt. But no, deflect, talk about unfair trials, media blowing it up, people feeling bad for him etc. What a loser

  16. Iirc a young Dan Murphy had tears in his eyes during the post game. The police received a ton of calls afterwards, crazy shit.

  17. 100 percent intentionally swung his stick into his head. He even shortened up on his stick. His intention was to badly injure brashear. It’s surprising that all this time later, he still denies it.

I think he got a bad idea in his head due to his anger towards brashear, and it was impulsive. Hockey is such a fast game that decisions are made in less than half a second, I think he regretted it immediately and still does. Still, it doesn’t change the fact that it happened.. he went full caveman brain.
