The Toronto Blue Jays Are Favourites To Land Max Fried: Do They Need More Starting Pitching?

The Toronto Blue Jays have been linked to another free agent, and this one is a little bit of a surprise. The Blue Jays are the favorite to land Max Fried, a strong left-handed pitcher from the Atlanta Braves. There is no question that Max Fried is a great starting pitcher, one of the better lefties in the league, the question marks are regarding the Blue Jays positional needs within the bats and bullpen. How good is Max Fried? What would a contract look like? Should the Blue Jays prioritize starting pitching? We answer all these questions and more on this episode of Locked on Blue Jays. We also have started a Movember fundraiser and encourage you to help raise awareness in any way possible. See the link in the description for more details!

  1. The team was a disappointment offensively, but it can't be dead. It's a team full of former all stars in their supposed prime.
You can reasonably believe in some sort of rebound. (For the second straight year lol) Though I would t get too comfortable with that thought.

It may not be "We need a Starter now" , But a "we want Fried long term".

Gallen, Valdez, King and Lugo highlight the class next year. (Plus more, who have options)
Actually, some decent alternative if they can't secure an upgrade this year..

  2. I WANT to believe this…I WANT that 1993 feeling again…but, how many times can we feel jerked around, played for fools, or just straight up lied to, until "wolf" loses its meaning?

  3. Max Fried will likely sign on the West coast, Dodgers or Padres. The J's would be better served to offer Ryan Yarborough a 3 year deal with a serious shot at the rotation. There could be some serious value and upside with Yarborough at a fraction of what you would pay for Fried.

  4. If you consider that the Jays were in on Ohtani, maybe it makes sense that they also would attempt to fill the high end pitching spot he was expected to fill this year.

Maybe they employ a 5.5 man rotation, with YRod making a spot start to extend some rest for guys, especially early in the year?

Soto/Fried is equal enough to Ohtani

And Ohtani is one pitch away from missing 20% of the time his contract covers.. (not that I'd be worried about that if he was on my team lol)

  5. when u need 2 legit hitters and your team is seeking pitching its time to give up and realize Shatkins watches our games through anti baseball glasses

  6. I fail to understand why you guys are so anti-Max Fried? You keep mentioning this $50 million that the Jays only have to spend, but they clearly have much more than that and it looks like they’re willing to spend it. How do we know this? They were going to go 700 million with Ohtani and they’re gonna go 550 to 650 on Soto. they probably won’t get Soto but the argument with Otani when people said why don’t they just take the 700 million they were going to give Otani and give it to free agents, it was clear that the Blue Jays looked at the free agent pool last year and didn’t think there was anyone worth it to invest heavily in. And they were right. Everyone lined up to give Bellinger and Soler huge money contracts, but both were basically not worth it this past season. This season is very different. Cody Bellinger wouldn’t be in the top 10 of free agents this year, so I think the Blue Jays are actually going to spend and spend big. I believe that they’re either going to sign Juan Soto or they’re going to sign a similar amount of money in other positions. The Blue Jays also know that if they sign Soto, they will still need to build the team around him. So that $50 million price limit that you’re talking about cannot be true or Soto would eat the entire amount and more. The Jays are in spend mode.
