Hey there Steelers Fans! Hope your Friday is going well! Today’s clip is from 2009’s AFC Championship, hosted by the Steelers. A close fought game between the two teams, with Baltimore forcing punts or field goals on every single Steelers drive in the first quarter.
Late into the fourth, after two unanswered touchdowns from the Ravens, Joe Flacco was making an impressive push into field goal range to put Baltimore ahead. Cocking his arm on 3rd and 13, Flacco set his sights on Baltimore Wide Receiver Derrick Mason. Unfortunately for the Maryland team, Mason had run his route too far out, pushed downfield by Pittsburgh Cornerback William Gay. This failed play would make him the first (but certainly not the last!) Derrick to show his ass on live television while playing for the Ravens.
With just over 4 minutes left in the game, Joe Flacco released a perfect spiral downfield, targeting Mason but instead reaching the waiting arms of Steelers legend Troy Polamalu, who expertly weaved his way through the Baltimore offense to a touchdown, securing the AFC title and ultimately sending Pittsburgh to the 2009 Super Bowl.
Hope yinz enjoyed today’s highlight, check in tomorrow for another one and, as always, happy Rat Bird Hate Week!

He was special
I was at this game. This is still the most euphoric moment in my life.
Appreciate the highlights and your enthusiastic commentary!
That said, not sure 3rd and 13 from your own 29 counts as an “impressive push into field goal range” lol
underrated part of this play: ryan clark flat out sprinting to throw a block once troy has it
“Troy thinks he’s a great broken field runner.”
I can hear the music from America’s Game while watching this on mute. Idk how many times I’ve rewatched those episodes.
That should have been impossible.
God. What a moment. Gives me chills
My Dude
8 Ravens vs 1 Aaron Smith, I like those odds.
You absolutely knew Troy was taking it to the house. It’s almost like everyone was gassed.
Troy backed up to the 40 pre-snap and just stared Flacco down the whole time. He’s still at the 40 when he makes the leaping grab. He had hops enough to get up, while any normal player would miss this.
He was simply the best.
A legendary moment
Was at a sports bar with friends – one was a ravens fan – the other Steelers fan was a friend I had a crush one, she turns around and kisses me. Great day.
Ballgame!
Correct me if I’m wrong, but was the next drive where Ryan Clark sent Willis McGahee to the shadow realm?

I’m in my sixties so I go back becoming a Steelers fan as a kid growing up here. So, I’ve seen so many, many great Steelers moments 💛
This Troy pick six is my all time favorite. 100%. 1,000%.
There were so many great plays and moments over all of the years. But this one took me completely overboard with joy. It surprised me how much it sent me off to the moon when it happened. Wow.
That was the play that took us to Super Bowl XLIII. Game in hand, we’re on our way. I have never been so elated than I was when it happened. Wow.
It was like: YES! YES!! YES!!! YES!!!! YES!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Over and over. And that times 100 and including trips out to the street yelling it in pure jubilation.
I still get all emotional when I see the replay 😃
WOW.
I Still get emotional when I see the reply.

I freaking hate the Ratbirds!!!
I’ve seen this play about a thousand times and I eagerly look forward to the next thousand
It’s a shame I can’t find the Hines hit on Ed Reed
Troy became a cutback runner. Haha
What a gift Troy was
The greatest
Polamalu was a different breed. Never duplicated. And that hair!
Fuck the ravens
