Ariel Hukporti held the nets to 7/21 FG as the primary defender last night.

  1. The things that I didn’t like (getting pulled too far out, losing sight of the paint) are coachable. I liked his activity level, BBIQ, rim protection, and that he isn’t a zero offensively like Sims and Mitch.

Definitely someone who could be improved at the Thibs Finishing School for Big Boys

  2. Still early but he looked like a legitimate rotation big; may have earned a permanent role.

  3. he made some rlly dumb mistakes but theyre so easily addressed that i dont feel bad ab them. hes physically and technically better than sims already imo. sims has oiled up hands

  4. They gotta try him again the next game and if it goes good he’s gonna have to give him sims minutes…imagine thibs starts him Sunday 😂

  5. His ability to contest shots because of his excellent timing is why he’s already deserved minutes but it’s his effort and vision as a passer that get him over the top.

His ability to pass from paint will unlock the offense even further.

He’s also shown a willingness to look at the rim and even putting the ball on the floor.

If he ever develops a reliable mid-range jumper to compliment his back-to-the-back forays, he might be an All-Star caliber center because his passing and defense are already pluses.

  6. he has legit big man size, length and good mobility/timing on contesting shots etc. Sims to me is just a bulky 4 with no skill – he’s not an actual big man.

i personally would like to see him get minutes even when precious comes back. if we’re keeping the starting 5 as is, huk can backup the 5 and precious backs up the 4/5.

  7. Saw him take a jumper around the FT line almost off instinct and I wasn’t even mad about it. I can’t remember the last time Sims or even Mitch attempted a jumper like that. I don’t remember if they actually ever have attempted a shot like that in general.

  8. I stand by the fact we are trying to maintain some sort of marginal tradable value for Sims.. **as part of a package**…that’s why he is getting the lions share of backup minutes

  9. Thibs has to be the big man whisperer. He consistently finds a way to get surplus value out of second round bigs. Even Sims has already surpassed the typical outcome of a 58th overall pick. I lowkey feel like he could turn James Wiseman into a productive player.

  10. Bro got Thib’s hand shaking in excitement. Huk’s his new big man project. Unleash the beast.

  11. Unironically I think the rookies can help this team a lot if Thibs give them a shot. Especially Kolek.

  12. The Knicks scouts have been really good at finding complimentry pieces in the draft. This guy is already better than Sims. Nice stong frame too.

  13. Yup, definitely saw a difference with Nets being more hesitant to go inside with Huk patrolling. It was noticeable. And I was happy.

  14. I think if he could stay out of foul trouble, which is like the biggest problem with him he’ll probably be pretty good third string back up because this team is perpetually injured

  15. i would love to play him at the 5, and kat at the 4 in the next game, as a preparation how our playstyle looks like when mitch returns. i feel like it can be great.

+ our bench is much better with harts energy and rebounding
