Larry Csonka sees similarities between the 9-0 Chiefs and his 1972 undefeated Dolphins team

  1. Honestly, I’m not wrapped up in the undefeated hype. We win the Super Bowl, who cares? Just look at last year….

  2. That was a fun read. Game recognizes game!

    Loved these quotes:

    >”When you watch Kansas City, you see perhaps not perfect execution, but a lot better than anybody else is doing,” he said. “You see the fundamentals being executed. … You don’t see the basic fundamental breakdowns that lead to defeat. When you see something like that, then you recognize that they have that competitive edge.”

    >”Someone steps up and does more than what they’re being called on to do,” Csonka said. “And that was a characteristic of the ’72 Dolphins. I see similarities in Kansas City. They’re intriguing to watch. Fundamentally, they don’t mess up that much at all. In crisis situations, just like the game ended last week, with a blocked kick at the end of the game, made the difference. That’s reminiscent.”

  3. Honestly we could go 14-3 and win the SB and I wouldn’t care about those 3. This is for a 3 peat and everyone in the playoffs is going to turn up against us, more than ever. Focus on locking up the 1 then prep for playoffs.

  4. the chiefs are inevitable.

But there are more games played in the season now than in the ’72 season add to that short spans between games now vs back then.

I’d say if the chiefs are still undefeated after texans game just sit everyone out for the steelers and broncos games.

so last two games plus one week rest (bye week)? everyone should be healthy, andy reid with time to scheme?

  5. I do want to go undefeated, but the task at hand is beating the Bills and locking up the one seed. After that we just want to make it to the dance and tango to a 3-peat. It’s unlikely we go 17-0, but if we have to lose, just hope it’s not this week. That’s the mentality.

  6. As a panthers fan who moved to KC for a few years – they said the same thing about us when Cam won MVP in the 2015 season. Worst 8-0 team ever, worst 12-0 team ever….Watching the chiefs while living there was the closest thing I’ve felt to that season. I remember seeing the final minutes of that playoff game against buffalo in P&L and losing my mind with the crowd. I remembered what it’s like to watch your team and have hope no matter the score is or how you’re playing. Great teams find a way to win even if it’s not a highlight reel every week. I’ll be rooting for you guys until we’re playoff competitive again (which may be quite some time).

  7. OK, here is more fun. You get to choose one.

    A) We go undefeated and win SB where Pat throws for like 400 yards, 4 TDs and has another clutch run but Pat gets injured and cuts his career short. Dynasty, legacy, GOAT and martyrdom all in one.

    B) We dont go undefeated, win SB for 3peat and Pat gets another 2 SBs over the next 10 years. Certainly dynasty, legacy and GOAT, but as much super nova.

  8. Big Red will likely rest our starters IF we clench home field and the bye for the playoffs.

He might rest our starters if we make the playoffs and there is nothing left to gain in the regular season (bye week or home field).

Super Bowl or bust. The game was different in 1972 and it was even different in 2007 when Pats went undefeated. Rest and health will be more important in the playoffs to Coach.
