Happy Sunday. Happy Steelers Ravens Day. And most of all, happy Rat Bird Hate Day.

Today, we look back on December 25th, 2016. 66,276 fans pack the stands at Heinz Field, giving up their Christmas Day to watch two of the hardest-hitting teams in the nation do battle. Three back-and-forth quarters have left the home team desperately trailing behind Baltimore 17-10, but star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has put on an amazing fourth quarter performance with two touchdowns. Sadly for the Steelers, they still trail by three with only fourteen seconds of football left.

After a strong drive and a spiked ball at the Ravens’ 3 yard line, Big Ben lined up for a pass to star Wide Receiver Antonio Brown. But tragedy struck, and Brown was hit hard by three ravens defenders on the one yard line. Jeraud Powers grappled from behind, assisted by Strong Safety Eric Weddle as Linebacker CJ Mosley finished the tackle. All in all, 630 pounds of Baltimore muscle pushed against Antonio Brown’s 5’10”, 180lb frame engulfing him within a huddle of purple and white. Pittsburgh gasped in anguish. And a single arm emerged. The Immaculate Extension. On Christmas Day, in front of 66 thousand Yinzers, with nine seconds left on the clock, Antonio Brown reached his gloved hand across the goal line, smashing through the plane. Touchdown, Pittsburgh Steelers.

After the kickoff, Joe Flacco used his time well, stopping the clock with only four seconds left. This gave him plenty of time to throw a perfect interception right into the waiting hands of Pittsburgh’s Ricardo Matthews. When the dust settled, the result of the game was a Steelers win, with Ben Roethlisberger putting up 21 of the team’s 31 points in a single quarter of football and eliminating Baltimore from playoff contention. And Christmas Day 2016 lived forever in Steelers fans’ hearts.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this season of Rat Bird Hate Week. Go Steelers, beat the Ravens.

The final highlight of Steelers Ravens Week. The Immaculate Extension.

  1. My favorite thing to do as a kid was watch Steelers games with my dad. We got to go to a few games when I was a kid: a game the last season at Three Rivers against Cinci, a game the first season at Heinz against Detroit, and the 2010 pick-sixes game against (again) Cinci.

This was the fourth and last game my dad and I will ever go to together, because I no longer live in the area and he’s in poor health.

I’ll never forget this moment for the rest of my days.

Thank you Killer Bs for a play that I’ll cherish for a lifetime.

  2. This was the game on Christmas. My first Christmas at my soon to be in laws house. In Baltimore. They’re all Ravens fans, sitting there in Ravens gear. And me in the midst of them in a Polamalu jersey and pajama pants. It was a little awkward after that play. Lol

  3. I was at this game Christmas Day years ago. Greatest game I’ve been to next to the cowboys game when Deshea Townsend picked off Romo to win the game.

I will be at the Chiefs Steelers on Christmas Day as well this year.

Hoping to bring the same luck !!

  4. The ravens and not getting called for grabbing facemasks near the goal line at the end of a game name a more iconic duo

  5. The game was very exciting and it’s incredible with AB’s strength to extend for a TD over three defenders.

  6. Prime AB was an unstoppable force. Double covered, no problem. Dude made insane plays all the time and was clutch.

  7. Take away all the baggage and nonsense: AB was SO good and came up clutch in the toughest situations.

  8. That was such a fun game to watch. I was at my in-law’s and the whole family is Steeler fans. Even my wife’s nearly 90 year old Grandma got up and cheered for that catch.

I’ll always wonder how those last few years of Ben’s career would’ve panned out if AB didn’t go off the rails.

  9. I went up to see this game, it is my favorite game all time. The city and the stadium were on fire, it being Christmas just made it that much more special. I get chills everything I see this play.

  10. Idgaf about how he went out….AB the best offensive player to put on black and gold. He was a receiver winning games on his own sometimes.

  11. This was my first Christmas with my then girlfriend, wife to be. We’d only been together 4 months and we travelled a 4 hour drive down south (that’s a lot in England lol) to spend Christmas with her family.

Best Christmas I ever had as an adult.

We watched this game together in her family’s living room as they all slept, her decked out in one of my Steelers jerseys.

  12. One of the details I remember about this game it was a year after Troy had retired and we still hadn’t found a good answer at strong safety and had recruited Eric Weddle.  Ironically he signed  with our worst enemies and was powerless to stop AB from sealing the victory and the division.
