“Blame Mara”, Are Joe Schoen & Brian Daboll Being Scapegoated?

1. I love how we all just forget that Mr Barkley refused to sign an extension in the middle of the 22 season. Schoen attempted multiple times to give him a contract. He refused and then when it came down to the final hour to sign the franchise tag, Schoen gave Jones the 4 year deal with the out after two years. Barkley then gets the franchise tag because the way he handled it led to Schoen knowing he has to keep both for at least an additional season coming off the playoff win. Nobody talks about this because it’s way too easy for y’all to want side with Barkley and shit on the giants over it. Barkley isn’t going to be honest about it because it makes his nice guy image look bad. Joe Schoen, like Tiki said, didn’t really have another option at qb other than retaining Jones for at least another season because no team was going to trade back to 25 and allow us to get into the top 10 let alone top 5. Did you want Kenny Pickett in the first round? Should we have take Ridder?? The answer is no. We were in a super difficult spot because Joe’s hire of the coach of the year, Brian Daboll was able to get 9 wins out of a team that was atrocious the season before. The Giants on hardknocks showed that Schoen did try to trade up for Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye. Again, nobody wanted to trade up. Surely, at 2-8, that quarterback would have already taken over. Idk why people don’t use logic in their thinking. It’s really that simple. Schoen/Dabs absolutely should be able to pick their qb considering the entire reason for their hiring in the first place was their work with young qbs(Allen) from Buffalo.

2. Mara LITERALLY GAVE a press conference after the Eli benching saying they had discussed it but HE wanted it to NOT go down like that.

3. Mara absolutely forced Schoen and Daboll to resign Jones. He never gave the team the chance to truly rebuild. Jones is on his way to killing his 3rd HC and 2nd GM. Who ever doesn't think 95% of the garbage the teams gone thru over the last 6 years isn't Jones fault is delusional

4. So to your original point Daboll and Schoen didn’t come here to keep Daniel Jones so how can we say Mara was the one pressuring them to resign Daniel Jones? I don’t think the Saquan and Jones signings are comparable. DJ got the blessing from the Mannings and John Mara will take any opinion that comes out of that family’s mouth so I’m more to believe Mara wanted it to work with DJ due to too many ties. Daboll and Schoen don’t really have any ties with DJ prior to that contract

5. GUYS, watch the press conference after Reese and Mac got fired. Mara was absolutely involved and meddling. He may have gotten better since than (like Dolan) but it happened and its a concern. Hard Knocks is not definitive proof of anything when they all know the camera is in the room and it will be aired on HBO. They are putting on a show.

7. Tiki seems to forget the reason they had to sign him was because they didn’t pick up his 5th year option, it would have saved them a lot of money if they had & they wouldn’t have been stuck with him.

16. You guys say there’s no hard evidence of Mara meddling, and you are right. The giants are never going to give the public legitimate concrete evidence of ownership meddling because they do not let internal conflicts/disagreements leak into the public like the Jets do. The giants have never been that type of organization and if that’s what you are looking for you will never find it. However, what about the fact that it took them up until quite literally the last minute to re-sign Jones after coming off the playoff win at Minnesota? Besides Tim Tebow, I have never seen, and maybe it has happened before and I could be wrong, but I’ve never seen an organization wait that long to make a decision on whether or not to bring back a QB who just won them a playoff game. That doesn’t happen, and to me is absolutely evidence of some sort of disconnect within leadership. The only question is, who wasn’t on the same page? And if we’re going to use our thinking caps for this one, let’s ask ourselves this. Was the disconnect more likely between Daboll and Schoen? Two guys who worked together in Buffalo, had great success, and chose to put their careers on the line by agreeing to work together again? Or was it between them and Mara? A guy who has proven to be stuck in the past based on his numerous hirings and firings of GMs and coaches since Tom Coughlin left (all of which were in house hirings btw because he was too stubborn to let an outsider inside the organization), and his unwillingness to let go of Eli Manning several years after it was clear he couldn’t play anymore? I’ll let you decide which is more likely.

17. @wfannewyork I’m hard pressed to believe Mara would get rid of Joe. Joe’s biggest mistake was leaving the scouting dept he had prior to 2023 in place from the prior two regimes. This last draft, in my opinion was the best draft we’ve had in a while top to bottom. But in the last 6 years, if all we netted out of the last scouting dept was: AT, Dex, and MAYBE kt, McFadden and wandale… well there’s the reason we sit at 2-8. If we get another draft like last years with Joe’s current scouting dept, I think we’ll be in much better shape, with a young roster as a solid foundation.

24. This looks just like the 5 games losing streak in the Playoff year. Operation Expose and Upgrade is working perfectly.

25. Starting to win games in a lost year would be the worst outcome and the most Giants thing to do.
    The rest of the games need to be Preseason style evaluation games and avoid owing Jones money.

27. First mistake was not picking up DJ's 5th year option. EVERYTHING else flowed from that error.

    On the right track regarding Jones, but dig a little deeper.
    During the bye week 2 years ago, GM Schoen attempted to sign a long-term term deal with Sequon Barkley. It didn't work out, so instead, he signed Jones long term and placed Barkley on the tag. I believe he wanted the opposite. I heard Schoen was very upset that Barkley wouldn't sign.
