No Jokic, Big Problem, Nuggets fall to Pelicans in NBA Cup | Pickaxe and Roll

On the latest episode of Pickaxe and Roll, Ryan Blackburn recaps the Denver Nuggets 101-94 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Cup. It didn’t matter that the Pelicans were missing Zion Williamson and five other rotation players, or that they had lost six games in a row. The Nuggets were missing Nikola Jokic, and that was clearly enough. Ryan discusses Jamal Murray struggling to step up, Denver’s center issues, and how Denver lost last night.

  1. Am not the only one who has noticed
Jamal seems he has lost explosiveness
There is no excuse for Jamal
He takes the most shots in the team and he is badly inefficient
I keep comparing 2020 and now and i saw that Jamal has really lost quickness and explosion

U remember last year when Malone said they need to set better screens for Jamal to loose his defender quicker

He just can't seperate from his defenders like in the bubble
Now if he goes one on one u know he is bricking

    Also Jamal is one dimensional
He is a shooter and doesn't go to th rim
Jamal is the type of guy who is streaky

  2. For as much as Jamal Murray displays fire as “Bubble Murray” and “Championship Murray” can attest there seems to be a dismissiveness or a flat out indifference to putting maximum effort into several games per year!

  3. If we're this negative about the team and Jamal especially in November then the team needs to be blown up and get what assets we can because again if it's this dire in November then this team won't win another championship in the Jokic era

  4. This game highlights just how bad the Denver team is without Jokic. Murray, who signed a four-year, $208 million contract extension, was given a max deal—if he’s not the right player, why offer him the deal? Do you think any other team would have offered him a similar contract?

  5. Murray took no accountability post game these horrible contracts are wasting jokics prime murray has never made an all star team has bad injuries and has regressed and still got a max? Peyton Watson and Braun are more important to this team than jamal Murray

  6. come on people, how long to attack Jamal, they kept him like a treasure. there are no threes, you go under the net…. the main problem is that there was no one to play under the hoop. Jamal can't do that. The only one who can keep the game going when Jokic is not there is Gordon. The rest….children and misses

  7. Jordan plays baseball in 1995 and Scotty Pippen leads the Bulls to a 55-27 record losing to Patrick Ewing's Knicks in Round two going 7 games. Could Murray accomplish this if Jokic was to sit out the year?

  8. Murray is the haughty type where the more criticism he gets the more hes gonna dig in—He aint gonna change–Dude has a arrogant contempt for any kind of strict diet conditioning regime–also -Babbler D-LINE said "murray is more like demar derozan at this stage of his career"-🤣-murray is 27 years old–derozan is 35

  9. As a long time Nuggets fan I have to say…watching Murray jog around with no sense of urgency and his jersey hanging out is getting old….sloppy.

  10. Sorry but a professional team shouldn't look so completely lost and incompetent without its best player, terrible and embarrassing game. 2nd "best" player gets a max and can't muster up enough to beat a g-league hospital team?

  11. The problem is not that we're expecting too much of Jamal. We can accept Jamal for who he is, but then his salary should match that, so there's room in the budget to bring more players to assist. If he's getting paid like a max contract player, then we expect him to play like one. If he can't do it, he shouldn't be paid like one.

  12. you're too soft, one team cannot fall to one man, its called a team sport, we're seeing such a drop in quality (beating best teams vs losing to a bench of a worst team)

  13. Why wouldn’t the assistant coach play Jordan when we’re getting out rebounded that badly? I know Zeke was bad but he only played five minutes, he needs more to figure things out

  14. Shame on Denver Nuggets for doling out TWO HUNDRED MILLION to an average player who doesn't even play games, always injured etc…Murray. Shame shame shame shame shame Instead they could have traded him. Jokic has to leave but he's a giant labia majora at heart to do so. I can't follow the Nuggets anymore.

  15. Murray is not the player he was 2 years ago. How will the team deal with that? It’s not out of the realm of possibility that he becomes that good again but are you willing to bet the window Jokic gives us on Murray?

  16. Imagine earning 52 million per year. Yet you never were an All Star in your life, and scoring 16 points, is a successful game for you.
He is untradable. Nobody would take him, except if Jokic is included in the trade.

  17. That trash organization is ruining the career of the best offensive player in the history of the sport. They should have given max contract to Reggie Jackson too, why not. Bunch of incompetent clowns. This is what Nuggets are without Jokic. A lottery team. Last year's Detroit Pistons. The difference being Pistons have a good PG. Max contract to a guy that averages 17 points and 6 assist for a career. What a joke. There are minimum 15 better PGs in the NBA. Minimum. Wish Joker would ask for a trade.

  18. Ryan trying to flex that he knows more, fine report on it. Are you a reporter or a fan? Everyone has an opinion the only difference between a fan and "reporter" is that one is coming hopefully from an informed point of view.
