There was a narrative in the media, fueled partially by some disgruntled players and perhaps in parts to diminish the significance of losing the defensive coordinator, that Fangio wasn’t connecting with players. Maybe he was less interested in building sandcastles and wearing flip flops then the locker room could handle?

  1. lol remember when people were losing their minds after the failed final drive against Atlanta after the defense balled out in the red zone most of the game? Even in the early loses..they were bending a lot, but not giving up a lot of touchdowns. This season should be a reminder to take a walk when you want to cry online about Siriani and the defense and all other bull shit the drama queen fans want to bitch about. This is not for everybody, so relax. Check some mother fuckers post history if you have a short memory.

  2. When you have players that were in the locker room (Deshon Elliot) calling the team soft I would believe there are some issues there. Thank god he didn’t fit into the dolphins culture which seems to be about looking flashy but being a crappy football team when it comes down to it.

I think overall it is safe to say the eagles players respect him and are playing hard for him. Examples: slay actually tackling this year, Jalen Carter playing 66 snaps at max effort on Thursday night.

  3. Dolphins players also have the temptation of Miami nightlife in their backyard, it should be noted. Definitely don’t want to imply it was the whole team slacking off bc it wasn’t, but I think there’s certainly a possibility there were some heads slacking off and not giving 100% focus and that’s definitely the sort of behavior that would not fly with Vic. I can understand why heads butt if they were not prepared for his coaching style

  4. Everyone who leaves miami has negative press and is labeled a locker room cancer. They then go onto rebuild defensive units into some of the best in the league. They did the same thing with flores.

Its starting to feel to me like if everyone you meet is an asshole then maybe you’re the asshole.

  5. I actually do buy into the idea that teams and organizations have an identity and trying to go against your nature usually gives poor results.

Miami life for a young millionaire makes you unfocused and undisciplined. And that perfect weather makes players soft. But in exchange they attract a lot of talent who want that nice lifestyle. There are pros and cons but a hard nosed defensive coach was not going to work on that team.

  6. Miami is a shit city for a cohesive team since guys just want to go out and party during the week. There’s been plenty of talk about the lack of connectivity between players. If they want to scapegoat their old DC, then so be it. Won’t fix their issues.

Vic didn’t even want to be there in the first place (fuck you Gannon) so the writing was on the wall since the day he was hired.

  7. That Miami defense was also full of vets with big egos like Ramsay, Howard, and holland who didn’t like having to adjust to the “tyrannical” fangio

  8. Yeah, I never cared for that shit. Vic is there to coach up players so they can play. He likes longer practices and more reps. You’re either gonna do what he says or you’re not gonna have a good time. He has no problem benching people and I love that about him. Miami was never for him. Miami is a party city and Vic is a serious guy.

  9. Philly has a younger more coachable team and Fangio has full control of the defense including scouting and personnel to an extent. The young guys wanted to get better, respected the pedigree and Fangio seems to have hired some solid assistants. Miami clearly didn’t have all those things.

  10. Dolphins are a trash franchise with a trash culture

They care more about being flashy than winning. Which is why even with a healthy offense that scored a ton of points, they couldn’t beat good teams and eventually choked in the wildcard round

  11. Think of the kind of player that wants to be in Philly and then think of the kind of player who wants to play in Miami.

Players adopt the persona of the city they play in and south Florida is one of the flakiest, tackiest places on earth. Doesn’t surprise me that Vic didn’t fit in there.

  12. I think part of it is if a coach asks a player to play his position in a way he isn’t accustomed to and a doesn’t like. And the team doesn’t improve that player is going to feel a type of way about that coach, simple as that.

Most players are not going to be mad at a guy who tells them to play the position in a way that gives them the most stats and money even if the team is losing. Over the guy that tells them to play in a way that is not advantageous to them and the team is losing. it would be superhuman for a player to realize that the scheme, that demands them to play in a way they do not like, is not the problem.

Basically I think that a defender would rather lose with Wade Phillips rather than lose with Bill Belichick

  13. The thing Fangio has the benefit of having here is that many of the guys on defense are young and still moldable to fit the scheme he wants. What Fangio had to work with in Miami were older veteran stars stuck in their ways.

  14. I think it’s a combination of the nightlife in Miami and the types of player personalities. Fangio is going to coach guys hard and shoot straight. Some guys respond well to that and others don’t. The Georgia boys are used to that and it’s blatantly obvious that they like it. Same with the guys they brought in and drafted. The guys that we already had on roster knew Vic from his time here the SB year, so they were already on board.

  15. It’s Miami, players don’t go there to play hard. They go there for the life style and weather.(taxes help too).

  16. The problem wasnt that they were soft because they actually rank around #10 rn

The problem was they had alot of talented older players like Ramsey ect with egos who you know, at that point in their career feel like they have a bigger say vs this team which is one of the youngest defenses in the league thats also talented, except they are wet behind the ears so they buy in more to Fangio rather than fighting him every step of the way.

  17. I never bought into it. Fangio’s been a DC since the 80’s, which so happens to be the last time the Dolphins did anything worth talking about.

  18. Miami is a superficial place. The people are pretentious and entitled. The city consumes you. It’s a party city disguised as a serious place. Philly is the exact opposite

  19. Kirk herbstreit brought up a good point. He said Miami had a lot of veterans and they may not have bought in. The eagles are younger and the players are

  20. Despite the narrative, when a bad coach leaves you celebrate, you don’t post videos of kicking rocks and subtweeting like some Hollywood blind.

It was obvious the players were upset he left, not glad “the lady doth protest too much”

  21. Miami’s ownership is corrupt. They know the rules and flout them anyways. Wooing Brady outside of the interference windows. Blackmailing coached with their jobs to keep quiet about it. Full court press when they are found out. That’s Dolphins Football.

Fangio is a teacher by nature. He needs a younger and more open minded team to buy into the things he teaching. He can’t use players who are so set in their ways that when asked to move positions or play a little different way. That’s why younger players have earned playing time where others have seen nothing but pine. Those who can’t, won’t, or hinder the team are traded or cut even at a financial deficit for the team. White wouldn’t play ST or teach to earn playing time, and he’s gone. Bradberry who is on IR and world be a liability if he came back to the lineup have decided to teach next to Fangio to make the team better. That’s what is expected.
