Woof
I got curious during the game so I had to look this up: the Wizards take the third most above the break 3s in the league yet they shoot 31.6% on them (fourth worst in the league). By contrast, the Wizards take 6.5 3PA in the corners (second worst) and make 38.9%, which is pretty average.
I don’t understand why they plan their shooting like this. 34.6% of all their shots (31.9/92) are extremely low-efficiency attempts. The Wizards have always had a problem shooting enough 3pt volume to keep up with other teams after the 3pt revolution, but even now that we’re taking way more 3s we just can’t get the ball to the corner.
I’m cool with losing but losing by 20+ every game is annoying.
I’m okay with missed shots, I’m okay with turnovers(for now, our team is young). What I’m NOT okay with is the lack of effort in transition defensively. Getting back and matching up on defense requires zero skill, it’s a “want to”… and this team collectively doesn’t want to show any type of resistance in transition.
I know we’re bad but losing by 20 to the Pistons bad? Damn
Piston’s are not as bad a team as people in the GDT make them out to be. They were hampered last year by terrible coaching (much like we are now). That said, a pretty awful game overall other than from Poole, Bilal, and Bub.
No one will hold Keefe accountable for not playing Bilal a single minute in the 4th since we have a back to back, but it’s the type of decision a loser franchise makes.
Did Bilal get injured?
Credit to the Pistons, we got flat out, out-coached and out-played. Kuz actually played a good game and same with JP. Bilal was great but idk why Keefe didn’t play him in the 4th. Bub was probably our best rookie tonight, Sarr was getting bodied by Duren and felt like Kyshawn’s offense is kinda getting thrown off with the changing rotations. Brogdon first game back 😬 hopefully he’s better next game

Frustrating game, but seeing us sandwiched between the Bucks and 76ers at the bottom of the East is pretty funny
if you watched this game, I love you
That was a rough one. I was hoping Sarr had turned a corner offensively after his last couple of games, but his complete lack of touch around the ring worries me. He got caught in no man’s land a lot of defence as well, but given how horrendous our perimeter defence has been I don’t want to hold him single-handedly responsible. He’s got tonnes of developing to do.
I liked Bub’s and Kyshawn’s games though. Even though Bub isn’t getting many opportunities to initiate offensively he’s staying ready, and I like how hard he fights defensively, even if his physical attributes will probably stop him from being a real game changer on the defensive end. Kyshawn’s shot wasn’t falling, but his penetration and passing ability was a big part of that brief run we made in the 4th.
I thought our defence the first 4-5 games looked waaaaay better than last year, I don’t know what’s happened since. We look so disorganised finding shooters, and there’s zero intensity. Seems like there’s a disconnect between the coaches and the players
Pistons fan, whats the vibe on Keefe as a coach?
From his press conference he seems pretty steady and honest with the media
The problem with tanking is you get a lot of these doldrums of shifting bleakness.
Just as Gandalf the Grey had to go through the fire and flames (great song, BTW) to become Gandalf the White, these current Wizards must go through this.
pistons are a good team, so let’s not start with saying “wizards are losing to garbage teams”….. Bilal needs to take more than 9 shots a game ….We need to start putting the ball in his hands at all cost! they shouldn’t be no one over the age of 25 taking more than 10 shots a game….I love Kuzma and Poole but we gotta get realistic right now. If anyone should have a green light to throw random shots up it should be Starr and Bilal. I love my team!
Be ready to be “that team”, instead of the cool rebuilding team. It’s what we signed up for.
The Wizards TV team (and production) is just… awful, both in game and out of game. If you’re going to make me watch this awful team, at least don’t subject me to that.
I ain’t seein it with Sarr. His 3s look ugly. Paint play isn’t there. Won’t use his body on defense. Refuses to jump for rebounds. Doesn’t setup screens like JV does. The team needs a big man that can threaten paint play so they don’t just pass the ball around the edge of the key the entire possession unless Kuzma or Poole charge in. His spin fadeway around the nail is nice when his shooting form isn’t sabotaging him but that’s not gonna open up lanes. I get he’s a rookie and it’s early in the season but he has a lot of rough edges, especially for a team that won’t hire a shooting coach.
If I had a nickel every time I saw someone pass to JV at the top of the 3, run for the dribble handoff, have the handoff be faked, JV hold the ball above his head and square up to the basket, have all 4 other plays be stagnant and heavily guarded, JV back his man to the basket and take either lose the ball or take a contested shot – I could probably buy the Wizards franchise off Ted.
Keefe is good at developing players and that’s it. Get somebody else to be the coach.
Ivey looking really good this year
Capture the Flagg babyyyy
My first game watching this group live. Only a few observations:
1) got to see the Jordan Poole experience live and dayum. Yeah he can hit some pretty heroic shots but goddang if the team doesn’t play soooo much better when he sits 😂
2) Sarr: I always root for any young player to succeed but ouch. If you’re a 7 footer and all you have are iso jumpers you basically have to be KD. The inside game was rough. Decent D tho.
