The Washington Capitals may be without Brandon Duhaime against the Vegas Golden Knights on Sunday night. Head coach Spencer Carbery labeled Duhaime a game-time decision during his pregame media availability.

“We’ll have a game-time decision,” Carbery said. “So, we’ll see after warmup.”

The 27-year-old winger left Friday’s win over the Colorado Avalanche early after blocking a Cale Makar one-timer with his left skate. He skated 10:40 of ice time before departing with 9:51 remaining in the third period.

Duhaime has recorded five points (3g, 2a) in 16 games for the Capitals this season. If he cannot play, Hendrix Lapierre will likely dress as he is the team’s only extra forward on their western road trip.

Logan Thompson will start in net against his former team for the second time this season. The 27-year-old backstop stopped 26 of 28 shots against the Golden Knights in the Capitals’ first win of the season in October. He took his first loss of the 2024-25 campaign in his last start, falling 4-3 in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Thompson is 7-0-1 this year with a 2.71 goals-against average and a .906 save percentage. Per MoneyPuck, he has stopped 5.2 more goals than expected in his eight starts.

The Golden Knights are the top team in the NHL’s Pacific Division with their 11-4-2 record. They have won two games in a row, downing the Anaheim Ducks and Utah HC last week.

Update (8:07 pm): The Capitals did not have Duhaime listed in their lineup but he is indeed playing against Vegas. Hendrix Lapierre remains a healthy scratch.
