Arsenal’s injury woes deepened during the international break as Leandro Trossard was forced off with an injury in Belgium’s UEFA Nations League fixture against Israel on Sunday.
The Gunners have been plagued by fitness setbacks this season, with several key players sidelined at crucial moments. Captain Martin Ødegaard, who sustained an injury during the September international break with Norway, has only just returned to full fitness, featuring in Arsenal’s recent Champions League win over Inter Milan.
Similarly, England internationals Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice were withdrawn from the current international break following injuries sustained in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea. Ben White also underwent a minor medical procedure last week to address lingering joint issues, sidelining him for up to eight weeks. The versatile defender has already missed games against Leicester City, Southampton, Paris Saint-Germain, and Bolton.

Trossard’s injury adds to Arsenal’s growing list of absentees. The Belgian forward has been an efficient performer this season, registering two goals and an assist in the Premier League. Despite a dip in form after the previous international break, Trossard remains a valuable attacking option for Mikel Arteta’s side, often influencing games as a substitute.

The £29 million signing had a strong start to the campaign, scoring crucial goals in victories over Aston Villa and Leicester City. However, his injury in the 37th minute against Israel, where he was replaced by PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, raises concerns for Arsenal ahead of the busy festive schedule.
With the Gunners now nine points behind league leaders Liverpool, Arteta will be hoping for the timely return of key players like Saka, Rice, Riccardo Calafiori, and Takehiro Tomiyasu for their next Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.
Trossard’s absence, coupled with the already stretched squad, presents another challenge as Arsenal aim to reignite their title charge.
