The players are as full of it and as pendantic as the owners/FO. There might be two guys in the history of the world that opted for a lower dollar deal due to ancillary reasons. Everyone takes the money and rationalizes. "This demonstrates commitment to building a winner…" Blah, blah. Money. Period. Because this is their profession.
I wouldnt say people wouldn’t want to come to Anaheim, but it’s if Perry wants those people on the angels, because this team always seems to find holes within the organization.
Isn't it fairly reasonable based on real performances that signing FAs/extensions after peak years turn out to be (overwhelmingly) failures, even disasters?
Angels SHOCK the baseball world and sign Juan Soto: Mike grows out his hair!! 🧔🏻♀️
Do the Angels give an extra year or two and a little more money to Snell or Fried to try and entice another star to come to the Angels?
The Angels are a big market team with an inferiority complex because of that transplanted blue and white uniformed club in the same greater area. The Halos have the bucks and players want to play in Southern California. I am a fan of a postseason club who can’t attract FAs because of the crummy town in which that club is located. The FA players have families and kids in school, so it isn’t just about a winning club. It’s about money and the type of city – both are at play – I would say more than the record (for example: the Rangers’ signings you mentioned here). So the Halos should just stop thinking that they are the little brother and go for it.
The difference between Texas and the Angels is that the Rangers did not have 2 players locked up for 73 million dollars. Also, the Rangers had a healthy organization. The Rangers minor league system at the time was very good. I think the Angels should focus on getting talent in the minor leagues and then in 2 years go after major free agents.
PM GM is more than aware we aren’t the most attractive franchise at the moment. He has been taking advantage of local guys or giving extra years/salary as he did with Anderson and Stephenson. Whether it’s Shane Bieber, Max Fried, or Blake Snell I believe the Halos will go the extra mile and sign one of them because it is such a glaring hole in the team. Also, playing in Southern California weather is not the worst thing in the world and players definitely take it into consideration.
We still have Kyle Hendricks and Tyler Anderson in our rotation. 😂😢
