   Hutson is NOT the future he is a flashy player but far from a complete defenseman.
   As for dumb passes this has been a habit forever making cross ice passes that have little chance to succeed.This team needs to keep it simple dump it out dump it in let the other opposing team make all the mistakes.

11. I wouldn't say Hutson on his own made Matheson expendable. But he's definitely a serious contributing factor.
    First Matheson himself ain't exactly as crisp as last year, still does the same defensive errors here and there but ain't on the same scoring pace to hide those mishaps under the rug. Secondly there is the realisation it's much better for the long term to place Guhle back to his best side, the left one.
    These are the main factors with Hutson.
    But then you add yet another one in Engström not only doing so well on his own with Laval in no time and already knocking at the NHL door but also clicking fantastically well much sooner and also quite better than anticipated with Mailloux. So there's a potential full NHL pairing to maybe bring in together as soon as next season.

18. I'm not sure why you only need one offensive defenseman. Even if Hutson moves to the top pair and first PP unit, you still need to move the puck with the number 2 pair and PP unit. For me it would all depend on what we might get for Matheson. I definitely want to see us trade Savard, and I want them to demand a first round pick.

20. I've been a "trade Matheson" (simply too poor on defense) since before Hutson even started playing so I am good with a trade now. The young guys that have been under Marty for over a year are now ready to be held more accountable with consequences for lack of effort or mistakes. Great show guys! GO HABS GO!

21. The big difference with lane and mike is powerplay time. If Lane had the pp time of Mike, imagine his points!!!!

22. Matheson main weakness is at even strength, especially 5-on-5. Although he does do various good things that defenseman do (blocking shots and PK), think he gets caught out of position too much. Wonder what would happen if Lane gets some PK duty? Also, Reinbacher is supposed to be a solid defensemen and a team player. Wonder what would have happened if Reinbacher would have not had the knee injury and played on the roster?

23. However, mind you every team's cap will go up and the Canadian dollar has been horrible lately. Would be if could get Monahan back. Hughes' hands were tied for years due to Bergevin's screwups. Hearing that the Pens may trade away players (except 87) since they're doing possibly more horrible than the Habs currently are. Have to be highly weary of getting any players from sunbelt teams like Florida brought up to Canada. There have been less optimal situations in the past like Bouwmeester and Huberdeau.

24. If Mtl trades Matheson ; send another body with him ; maybe Dvorak and pick up a " real forward " or a strong goaltender …

27. I don't think Matheson gets traded until his contract year. Unless someone comes along and offers up a 28 ish old, minute munching top pairing RD (IE deal too good to pass up), then I think he plays out until the trade deadline of next season (2026)

    As far as that list of UFAs….I think the only ones I touch are Ehlers or Boeser if you can get them.

30. Well first we need to get 2 first line forwards, and 2 first Dman. They can have all the rule change, they still a bottom feeding team we have no first lines

31. Higher cap means players will expect higher salaries so the increase isn't as big a deal as it may seem.
    If I were spending the dollars I would be looking for great 3rd line players. Not sexy in the regular season but very important in the playoffs. We also don't have to hang on to all our draft picks so trades are possible.

32. Matheson doesn't need to be traded. He just needs a holiday like Pezzetta. Maybe shorter.

36. As much as MSL must start to move to hard coaching, Suzuki has to move to harder captaining too – and you love to see it

37. The team's defence is already mobility challenged. Savard, Xhekaj, Hutson are at best average skaters. You would think that most here would adhere to the old adage that you trade elite skating at your team's peril. How many times can this team shoot itself in the foot?

38. Getting rid of veteran defensemen is a sure-fire way to see the team regress even more.
