  1. JFC.

No wonder he was taking 5 steps on quick outs. It also REALLY explains Caleb being off on his timing with his receivers

That’s downright unacceptable. Every passing play, unless it’s Waldron’s fabled sprint out left or a rollout, needs to have a set drop.

You could say Waldron ‘dropped the ball’ on that one.

    😎

Edit: I went back and watched this clip. Waldman doesn’t cite any sources here, looks like it’s just per his own opinion via tape review. Don’t know how much water this one holds.

Edit 2: OP said Waldman had sources close to Bears org. Must have missed that. SLANDER OF SHANE WALDRON IS BACK ON THE MENU.

  2. That passes they eye test with some of those drop backs.

The QB school has been talking about Caleb’s drop backs all season and wondering why it was so inconsistent/didn’t match up with the play.

Its almost like Waldron was out there calling plays and doing almost no coaching and that’s what showed up on the field.

  3. I seriously doubt this. There’s no way an nfl OC was that unprepared.

But it also explains how Caleb and the WRs were so off script. There were so many times were timing was off and the steps you take in our drop back are supposed to align with your routes. Not having that is like living with no floor lol

  4. If everyone on the sub called BS on teammates wanting Bagent, then they can call BS on this. Dude has been an OC in Seattle. He is bad, but this is bullshit. He didn’t know how to call plays in sequences and had some bad designs, but this is incompetence that would get a coach fired before he stepped on the field.

  5. This is super crazy if true and even more damning on the people making hiring decisions. How is that even possible? No scripts to start games, no adjustments in game, not playing to the team’s strengths and weaknesses, and now lack of design and preparation.

  6. Holy shit what joke. I could understand saying that to someone like Tom fucking Brady, but telling a rookie qb to “wing it” is actually insane

  7. Almost like your OC is supposed to draw up the plays where the receivers are coming open at a pre determined time that is synced up with the quarterback’s drop back ending…

  8. If this is true this makes me fell like I can coach better than NFL level coaches, and I coach club league 8 man football in Mexico.

  9. That explains the complete and utter lack of timing the offense had and why nobody was ever at the right spot

  10. But Eberflus said he was a “great teacher”. It’s amazing how he gets so many chances to make OC and DC hires when he’s made it clear that he doesn’t know what he’s doing when making that kind of evaluation.

  11. Matt Eberflus is so painfully clueless about how his own offense is being run. It’s nauseating

  12. No idea if it’s totally legit, but like others have commented it makes sense. I’ve been trying to understand the exchange where Waldron is kind of laughing on the sideline, and the only thing I could think of was Waldron was saying something like “Ah see if you just would’ve done ‘xyz’ instead, that would’ve worked!” And now I can completely see him saying “See should’ve been 3 steps there to get it out quicker.” And Caleb shaking him off like, “Ya no shit, would’ve been nice to know that when we were practicing the play.”

  13. Fucking hell. That would explain why the receivers and QB were never on the same page. QB would be done with his drop but the receivers still wouldn’t be looking for the ball.

  14. What’s worse if Fluss saw this and allowed it , or is so incompetent he didn’t notice . If he’s not gone end of season don’t expect to take north next year

  15. This can’t actually be true. Like the number of steps in the drop is one of the basic fundamental parts of a play for the QB. This HAS to be a joke/meme

  16. Where was the QB coach? Kerry Johnson should have been demanding at the very least a timing count,if not footwork. Wasn’t Thomas Brown the “passing game coordinator”? Shouldn’t he have said something? I’m skeptical about this.

  17. This is absolutely wild. I’m very interested to see if any local media digs in and talks about this more.

As a lot of others have said, this certainly helps explain the weird timing issues with this offense.

  18. I want to say this has to be BS, but this entire offseason was basically acting like Caleb Williams was the next coming of Jesus. They only focused basically on skill pieces, didn’t pay any attention to the O-Line and acted as if Williams would just step in and be a 4,000 yard 25 touchdown guy.

Given the visuals of his passing, and the make up of the offense in 2024, the idea of them saying “wing it” sadly seems to have merit. It sounds like the entire philosophy was for him to Mahomes it every play

  19. This is actually disrespectful to the coaching profession and the game of football.

Like, I thought it was disrespectful for Luke Getsy to call 3 straight screen passes, but this is actually worse. WTF was Waldron doing these past couple of months?

We’ve listened to Eberflus talk about the “operation” and players needing to be better, KNOWING there wasn’t even a standard for them to follow, apparently.

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coach a generational talent, and these bozos squandered it by being, in my opinion, arrogant enough to think Caleb would just carry them.

I’m done with all of them. Even Poles needs to go because he’s complicit in this. Not only will the NEXT staff need to rebuild the locker room culture AGAIN, but they’ll need to likely undo all the bullshit instilled in Caleb this year.
