Hopefully he stays healthy, i say that as a Cardinals fan. Im just tired of seeing young phenom pitchers getting hurt and needing Tommy John.

Both are great, but Merrill should have edged him out. All those games played and stepping into a new position….. It wasn't like Merrill didn't earn it. I see what they saw in Skenes, but tough to see it not going the other way.
Merril and Chourio were good. But a ERA under 2.00 is insane for a rookie pitcher
Dude played in 23 games and wins an award. Theft, pure theft. Merril should have been the easy choice.

As a guardians fan I was always watching the pirates games where skenes was pitching and my thoughts were like “Man this guy is such a great pitcher for a rookie.” And what do you know he won rookie of the year.
You cant convince me merrill shouldve won when skenes couldve had MULTIPLE no-hitters. Idc how few games he played.

Though Skenes trailed Merrill in fWAR by 1, (4.3 and 5.3) led him in rWAR by 1.5(4.4 and 5.9)
Merrill also deserved it, but he wasn't robbed. Padres fans can shut up about it.
