Everybody should read Rosenblatt's article here but that's a pretty insane detail contrary to pretty much all of the guesswork people had about what was going on with the team.

  1. It’s pretty wild how the moderators are not allowing these articles right away and are having them censored despite all of the batshit insane things that have been happening this season.

It’s ironically really telling how people on r/nfl are able to discuss this sooner than Jets fans are

  2. Obviously this was leaked by JD’s camp, but if the details in the article are even close to true we’re so fucked. Woody apparently dictates the practice schedule, blocked a Jerry Jeudy trade, blocked a Bryce Huff extension, demanded a Davante Adams trade, got the team to bench Tony Adams, and wouldn’t let JD fill front office vacancies.

  3. Hmmm so we should believe Woody Johnson, who took a plane to meet Rodgers to convince him to come, wanted to bench him after they just beat NE on TNF after a bad weather game where the kicker missed a FG for the win?

  4. I wanted him benched. I still do. He throws like a fucking idiot now, like he’s afraid he’s gonna hurt his arm.

  5. I don’t know if I can watch another Jets game until Woody sells the team. This is a complete shit show, if even 50% of the article is accurate.

  6. Holy shit literally no one is coming to this shit show under this ownership lmfao

    * Woody blocked a Huff extension saying “no paying new money to players already on the team” I am sure that is GREAT for culture building

    * Forced the firing of Rex Hogan and did not allow JD to hire a replacement

    * Smith and Williams were pushed by Woody due to social media 🤣

    * Reddicks agent said pre trade Reddick wouldn’t play without a new contract and Woody refused to give him new money. So the Jets DID know what they were getting into…

    * Sources say that Woody walks around some Jets Drive feeling like he built this team…?

    * Forced the Devante trade

    * Johnson wanted the team to practice during the bye week which the players were pissed about. DUH. Again, the culture.

Laughable. We will never been good while he is owner. He is toxic culture bleeding from the head down.

    Absolute clown show.

  7. No matter if this is true or not it’s already out in the world and will be all over social media and sports talk radio. Some serious damage control is going to have to take place.

This is going to be an awful offseason and we still have 6 games left

  8. “According to a league source, Douglas was warned by Reddick’s representation that if the Jets didn’t plan on awarding Reddick a new contract, they should hold off on a trade. But when Douglas found out it would only cost him a 2026 third-round pick for a player of Reddick’s caliber he did it anyway, believing that Reddick would report and the team could figure out the contract later“

    What a guy

  9. Serious question, I’m sure woody did some of the things listed here(specifically the DA trade and probably the Williams signing), but why would the dude who wanted to bench Rodgers suddenly trade for his bestie

  10. Non-zero chance that woody gets appointed to be ambassador of Russia soon so we don’t have to deal with guess shit

  11. Absolute bombshell article. Congrats to us. This is officially as bad as it’s ever been. This spilling into the media is a PR nightmare. Stadium should be a ghost town from here on out. What an embarrassment. Completely unserious franchise.

  12. Y’know what has been bothering me… We have to deal with all the losing AND we have an absolute dogshit stadium experience. That’s the one area where Woody could get ambitious and make some real changes, but instead he chooses to do fuck all and meddle around in football matters. Jets need a Leon Rose ASAP. If fans were able to bully Dolan, we can bully this nepo baby loser too.

I went to a few games at other stadiums and even the “bad” ones, like the SuperDome, have a charm or some community appeal. We get to throw a football around a crowded parking lot before slinking through security into a gray mausoleum to watch our team score fewer points than the Yankees do most nights.

  13. I never liked Woody, but just because he seemed like a douche. I kinda saw him as a goofy rich dude that owned the team but largely stayed out of the way of football. So I figured that maybe the hate for him in the sub was overblown. Looks like I was wrong. Jerry Jones 2.0.

  14. And people told me ownership doesn’t influence team success.

Only morons on Reddit would say shit like that.

  15. If even half of this is true, then I can’t imagine the circumstances by which we win as many as seven games in a season…ever…again.

This will be a pretty big obstacle to attracting top coaching candidates like Detroit’s Ben Johnson, no? Who would sign up to be the general manager of a team whose owner only wants you to examine and pursue their private vision of a roster. The easy answer is *nobody* with any other prospects.

But also, what top FA’s are going to come here? Per above, nobody with real options elsewhere. If Budda Baker, the nfl’s best safety, knows that Woody Johnson (who has never played or coached the game) has demanded secondary personnel packages–benching Tony Adams–why would he ever come here? And beyond overpaying, would guys weave drafted consider sticking around?

The Jets are sending the league a really strong message right now: “We are adrift, we have no plan, and symbolic firings are how ownership is addressing it.”

So if you are in that locker room, and you are observing some or most of this, and you have the option to get out, why wouldn’t you? Your popular (If ultimately the wrong guy for the job) head coach gets fired mid-season… Your GM is fired in season. Your franchise QB sounds like he just wants to be playing call of duty while popping Xanax. Sauce, Garrett, Breece are in a contract year next year, JJ is the year after. This looks like a great opportunity for their agents to aggressively explore other opportunities next year, if not sooner.

Finally, when has the meddling owner bit ever worked in the NFL? Never. Too many examples to name, but the minute Al Davis decided that he knew more than his coaches was when the Raiders began their 40 plus year slide. Dallas fell apart the minute Jerry Jones decided he was also GM and chief roster builder. Woody Johnson, incredibly, sounds like he was taking notes on how Dan Snyder managed Washington.

The only possible caveat is that JD lied or misrepresented very large parts of this narrative. But that would require the NYT’s reporter to be both unusually lazy and deluded. Moreover, the editor of the piece, and then his/her bosses, as well as internal counsel, are also deluded. I’m also an investigative reporter. Nothing in the article had the hallmarks of a reporter and editors losing their moorings. Moreover, libeling Woody Johnson, who’s worth about $10 billion, is not something done lightly. You only print if you have multiple confirmations.

TL; DR We are currently very fucked, because: Our record. But this article implies we have not yet explored just how bad things can and probably will get.
